Variety reports that Spain's Rodar y Rodar company is gearing up to produce a pair of chillers next year. The first is JULIA'S EYES, in which a young woman discovers the frightening truth about her blind sister's suicide. It will be written and directed by Guillem Morales, who won strong reviews for 2005's EL HABITANTE INCIERTO (THE UNCERTAIN GUEST, pictured), about an architect who lets a stranger into his expansive mansion to use the phone, whereupon the man at first seems to disappear—but then turns out to be lurking in the house's many hidden rooms. (GUEST, it seems needless to say, is slated for an English-language remake, with Morales returning to direct from a script by William Davies, for Rodar y Rodar and Britain's Becker International.)

The second project is HOMECOMING, which will mark the directorial debut of THE ORPHANAGE screenwriter Sergio G. Sanchez. The story follows a couple of preteen siblings who go on vacation with their parents, then return home to discover that all other people have vanished. "Like my shorts and THE ORPHANAGE, I guess the film's about an impossible return to childhood," Sanchez told the trade; he also recently scripted the ghost story "3993" for Guillermo del Toro (see more details here). Both EYES and HOMECOMING will be filmed in English on budgets of between $10-12 million.
