Uno de mis muchos tracks favoritos de la tercera. Es increíble que al principio cuando salió en febrero no me gustaba mucho, pero luego meses después la escucho de nuevo y le he cogido mas cariño y me encanta, y me alegro, porque de verdad es bastante buena esta BSO. Powell tiene un listón maravilloso para las tres. Se intenta sobrepasar con cada una. Me muero de ganas por escuchar su Call of the Wild.
La trilogía de como entrenar a tu dragon es uno de los mejores trabajos que ha hecho Powell.
No voy a negar, que fundamentalmente la primera (creo que es una de sus 3 mejores bandas sonoras), pero las dos siguientes también están muy bien. Se le nota suelto y cómodo en ellas.
La obertura solo con música, sin dialogos, ni efectos de sonido:

Lo que me ha impresionado al verlo así es la sincronía, por ejemplo el crescendo del viento metal cuando el título aparece en pantalla, en el plano homenaje a los siete magníficos cuando están en el caballo y alzan los brazos. Aparte de eso, esta construida la secuencia a base de planos largos sin cortes, hay que ver como le gustan a Branagh los planos secuencia. En un momento dado, la cámara entra a una habitación, registra el bullicio de la gente poniendose guapa con un travelling circular, y sale por la ventana (con Hero y Beatrice encuadradas en el quicio), todo ello sin cortes.

Sí, la música de Doyle perfecta, al igual que la labor de dirección de Branagh haciendo una presentación tan vital sin necesidad de mil cortes. Muy bonito ese plano de Hero y Breatriz a contraluz.

Branagh es un virtuoso, algún día esto se reconcerá también. Orient Express gustará más o menos, pero es una master class de dirección y encuadre en estos tiempos de pirotecnia desaforada. Que por cierto, también cuenta con un climax músico-visual marca de la casa.
Algunas películas (Thor, Jack Ryan), han tenido una puesta en escena más convencional y rutinaria, pero sospecho que se debe a injerencias externas ya que la música de Doyle también es bastante más generica en esos casos.
Por cierto, que llevan 30 años juntos como director y compositor, sin fallar ni una sola película (las que no tienen música de Doyle es porque por naturaleza no podían llevarla, no porque se decidiese contar con otro compositor).

A ver si tienen narices de editar las 2 horas y media de música que Doyle compuso para Indochina (el film dura 160 minutos). En la anterior conversación que tuvimos me decanté por Frankenstein, pero en un tono más drmático/ lírico esta puede ser su magnum opus.
Te compraste ¿la edición restaurada de la peli editada por A Contracorriente aquí?. No solo tiene una imagen extarordinaria -salvo la polemica por el tinte verdoso- sino que el sonido en V.O también fue restaurado. La verdad es que esos paisajes con la música de Doyle son una experiencia única.
Y la larga secuencia del barco donde ellos (los jovenes) escapan y el intenta que la hija adoptiva de Deneuve, que esta insconciente no fallezca, cosa dificil porque no les queda agua, sin dialogos y solo con la música, es extraordianaria en el uso narrativo de la partitura. Además, esa fotografía en exteriores, que Lubezki dice que es una de las cumbres de la historia reciente del cine europeo.
Aquí el corte, no puedo encontrar la escena. Sencillamente sobrecogedor:

No tengo ninguna edición de Indochina, ni en DVD ni la nueva en Blu-ray. Y creo que el film lo vi en su día de forma parcial en Canal Plus.

Pues la edición es extraordinaria, de verdad que si. A Contracorriente se lo curra mucho. Y la peli es maravillosa -lenta y en ocasiones contemplativa, si, pero es que los franceses entienden la épica de otro modo. Y una fiesta para los sentidos, en cualquier caso. Solo hay un extra un documental (nuevo, de 2017), de 63 minutos que cubre todos los pormenores de la producción, con entrevistas -nuevas- a todos los implicados. Impagable el pez gordo francés, diciendole a Wargnier que la peli costaría 120 millones de francos, duraría 3 horas, sería un exito de taquilla y conseguría el oscar. Y Wargnier temblando, pero TODO se cumplió, excepto las tres horas, -por poco-.

Y claro, de golpe en Enrique V nos encontramos con esa orquesta... y con ese director de fama mundial (Simon Rattle), y decidimos que no ibamos a escribir cualquier cosa para ellos. El score es denso, hay un montón de cosas interesantes a nivel de orquestación.

Frankenstein, fue una ODA al viento metal. LA ODA al viento metal. Era gigantesco, de dimensiones colosales. Probablemente uno de los scores mas grandes de las últimas decadas.

Interesante lo que dice del problema de que hoy se haga todo con ordenador y se elaboren demos electrónicas de cada corte de la banda sonora:
Antes, los compositores presentaban los temas al director tocandolos al piano, explicandoles la instrumentación y como funcionaban, el director daba notas, el compostor se iba, escribía toda la partitura, y luego se reecontraban en las sesiones de grabacion, de modo que el compositor hacia lo que consideraba conveniente, tenía libertad creativa y el director tenía que fiarse de su criterio. No tenían apenas control sobre la música en si misma, lo que les asustaba. Hoy al probar el director cada demo de cada corte con la escena de la pelicula, el director tiene mucho mas control sobre la musica, y el compositor mucha menos libertad, y lo tienen reescribiendo o haciendo ajustes continuamente, muchas ves contra su propia opinión.
