My goodness - the Shout! Factory image is terribly over-digitized! (it seems more notable in the English version but is present on both.) What and incredible circumstance! Check out the image, early in the film, of Adjani clutching her head after a nightmare - toggle between the large captures. The BFI is rich with grain and the Shout! Factory heavy with DNR-style softening. What a blunder. I suppose it comes down to a personal preference but the BFI seems far more film-like to me. The BFI is darker and the Shout! Factory may show more information in the frame, but has lost its texture.

Shout Factory have also added both German and English versions - both in 1080P but the German gets the more robust rendering. I'm far less concerned about the bitrate, though, than the excessive clean-up. I was expecting it to be similar to the BFI - not such a radical difference in the visuals.

The rest of the features seems moot by comparison - but the Shout! Factory add a fairly robust audio - both in original and the surround bump - both in lossless. It has optional English subtitles for both versions. The Blu-ray disc is region 'A'-locked.

Supplements have the Herzog commentary (both English and German one - the latter with optional subtitles), the on-set documentary, stills gallery and trailers but no liner notes.

Pretty obvious the BFI is the one to own in my opinion. Let's hope the other films in the, Shout! Factory, Herzog Blu-ray boxset aren't similarly marred by the same heavy-handed digitization. I'm stunned.

Debería darle vergüenza a Shout Factory. DNR a tope.

I hope 7 discs wont mean video is too compressed. 18 films (I know some are farily short) + extras is still a lot of content for 7 discs.

    Y el respondió:

    Don't worry, I got this

I'm using the world's best AVC encoder on the highest quality settings (the encodes are given as much time as they need to look their best, and are manually adjusted as well).

The Werner Herzog films in this collection appear in their original aspect ratios with original mono audio (except for Cobra Verde, which is presented with original stereo audio). Alternative 5.1 surround mixes are also included. All films were scanned at 2K from original 35mm negative elements (except for The Unprecedented Defence of the Fortress Deutschkreuz, Handicapped Future, Land of Silence and Darkness, The Great Ecstasy of Woodcarver Steiner, Huie's Sermon and God's Angry Man, which were scanned in 2K from the best available 16mm negative, 16mm reversal positive and 16mm print materials) and remastered by Alpha-Omega Digital GmbH in Germany.

The English and German versions of Nosferatu were scanned at 2K, using a combination of original 35mm negative and best available 35mm print materials, by Alpha-Omega Digital GmbH in Germany. Digital remastering was undertaken by the BFI, at Deluxe Soho.

Scans of original assorted optical elements (opening titles, texted inserts and end credits) for Handicapped Future, Land of Silence and Darkness, The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser, The Great Ecstasy of Woodcarver Steiner, Heart of Glass, How Much Wood Would A Woodchuck Chuck, Huie's Sermon and God's Angry Man were provided to the BFI by Werner Herzog Film GmbH and have been integrated into the presentations in this collection. A textless version of the opening sequence of the opening sequence of Fitzcarraldo was provided to the BFI by Werner Herzog Film GmbH, and digitally generated text and title sections were made to accurately match the original German and English language film presentations.
