Projectiondesign produces first 1080p DLP projector
Projectiondesign has taken the wraps off the world's first True High-Def DLP™ Projector. The Action! Model Three 1080 is the first to use Texas Instruments’ new 1920x1080, 0.95”, 1080p DC3 single chip DLP™ system, after TI apparently chose specifically to work with projectiondesign on developing the first commercial use of its new chipset.

The Action! Model Three 1080 also uses projectiondesign’s patented DuArch™ Dual Architecture illumination system, featuring two lamps, two colour wheels and dual light formatters – resulting in claims for the new projector of 2500 lumens light output and a true optical contrast ratio of 7500:1.

    Other key features
    * RealColor Management - projectiondesign’s newly developed proprietary RealColor™ Management enables the installer or user to correctly calibrate the projector to any source and environment, in order to show any desired white point, and colour gamut. RCM takes into account the source, the optical properties of the projector and the environmental distortion from screens and reflections. The Action! model three 1080 comes pre-calibrated for a true D65 white point.
    * Inputs - The Action! model three 1080 supports inputs from digital and analog HDTV sources, over DVI (HDCP), progressive and interlaced component, in addition to all other popular video formats. For home cinema videophiles, it also supports a non-processing mode for increasingly popular HTPCs over both digital and analogue RGB.
    * All lenses feature motorised zoom and focus control, as well as horizontal and vertical shift. The model three 1080 can be controlled over Ethernet, RS232, or via the standard, backlit remote control.
    * Six high precision glass lenses - the model three 1080 features a wide range of six replaceable lenses, from ultra wide angle at 0.75:1, designed for rear projection, to the super tele zoom at 3.5 - 6.5:1 ratio. All lenses are glass-only, manufactured to high standards, with high precision CNC-machined mechanical interfaces.
    * Optical lens shift for undistorted imaging - All lenses feature full motorised lens shift both horizontally and vertically, allowing flexibilty in installation, without altering or distorting the image.
    * True optical contrast vs sequential contrast - True optical contrast will always have full white level and full black level available with any picture content. A torch pointing at the camera in a dark cave will have true, intense white light, at the same time as the dark areas will be black. Sequential contrast, on the other hand, will control the output of the projector based on image content. Only with bright content pictures will the projector have intensive brightness. The dark cave may be dark, but the torch will look like a candle. With mixed exposure scenes, a projector with dynamic iris and contrast will have neither bright, nor dark images, whereas true optical contrast will have maximum available contrast at all times, providing a much more dynamic image. Many manufacturers use sequential contrast figures to exaggerate performance specs.

Final pricing and availability of the Action! model three 1080 projector is yet to be confirmed – but we’ll obviously tell you more as soon as we hear it.
