Predeterminado Elm Street nueva precuela y secuela de FVJ

Pit of Horror scored a lengthy interview with fright fave Robert Englund, and among the many projects the actor discusses is one that we’ve had to keep under our hats for a little while. He reveals that New Line is moving ahead with a NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET prequel, and that a top genre talent has been signed to take the helm. “John [HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER] McNaughton is tapped to direct,” he says. While even Englund isn’t aware of final plot details, he speculates, “I think it should go the CSI route and be sort of like a docudrama that shows his crimes against the children. Then you cast two of the greatest character actors you can find to play the lawyers that get him off. Then of course it leads up to Freddy being burned alive.”

Englund also says that New Line has been talking to John Carpenter about taking part in the much-rumored FREDDY VS. JASON VS. MICHAEL MYERS flick

Director John (HENRY: PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER) McNaughton’s name has been attached to a NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET prequel for quite some time now (we first reported on it here), but no news has been heard about the project for months. So Fango asked McNaughton (whose MASTERS OF HORROR entry HAECKEL’S TALE, pictured, hits DVD November 14 from Anchor Bay) what was up. “Well, [New Line and I] talked about it, and I’m still waiting to hear back from them,” he says. “They approached me because of HENRY, since they want to make a serious film about Freddy Krueger and his early days as a school janitor. Freddy’s just a living person at that point, and this would seem more like a real story. It wouldn’t be supernatural, and it will recount the days when he used to kidnap young girls—and actually also boys—to rape and murder them.”

While both McNaughton and New Line seem to have a pretty good idea of what they want from the film, a script still has yet to be written. “This process obviously takes a long time and there’s no actual screenplay yet, just an idea of what the movie should be about. Let’s say I haven’t recieved the check yet,” the director laughs. “However, I do have a writer in mind whom I would like to write the new NIGHTMARE: His name is R.J. Tsarov, and he wrote the stage play I just directed. He’s a true talent and has a very original vision.” That production, which McNaughton helmed in Chicago, has taken up his last several months. “It’s called TENNESSEE SPEAKS IN TONGUES FOR YOU (OR THE 3 1/2 CHARACTER PLAY), and it’s really special and shocking,” he says. “It’s a very strange play. There are prosthetics and blood, but it’s about Tennessee Williams. It’s impossible to describe, and Tsarov is a truly original voice. It has horrific elements and it’s very strange. The most shocking part is one scene where Tennessee Williams bites the tongue out of another actor’s head and spits it at the audience.”

For the director, working on a stage project has been a very different process from doing film, and one he thoroughly enjoyed. “The play is still being performed [through October 28 as part of Chicago’s 18th Annual Rhinoceros Theater Festival], but I had to come back [to LA]. The thing with theater is, you direct through rehearsals and then that’s about it. There’s no continuation of direction, because all the work is done in rehearsal. You don’t have to be there every time. It was very different from filmmaking, as you use different tools to tell a story. In a movie, you can get a close-up if you need to tell something important, or you can just cut back to another shot, or get the actor to do it again if you’re not satisfied. Theater is a whole different experience, as it is one long continuous shot, and this was my first time directing a stage play.”

Also on McNaughton’s horizon is another frightful follow-up, this one continuing his own landmark first feature. “R.J. has written a screenplay for a proposed HENRY sequel, and I love it,” the director reveals. “It’s truly different from the first film, and it’s set in prison. Henry is in jail and this woman starts writing to him, then starts visiting and ends up falling in love with him. It’s very dark and original, and it’s not a serial-killer movie, as the first one was. I mean, I didn’t want to have Henry roaming the streets and killing more people. Of course, I would like to work with [HENRY star] Michael Rooker again; in fact, we talk all the time and we’re still in touch. I want him to read the new HENRY screenplay, and if he’s up for it, go and shoot the film.”

With the U.S. housing market taking a 35-year plunge, it seems even some of cinema’s more infamous abodes aren’t impervious to the drop. Now you can own the four-bedroom home located at 1428 Elm Street, or more accurately 1428 N. Genesee Ave in Hollywood, CA, which Realtor.com is currently featuring here, for the bargain price of $1,095,000. The listing describes the home as a “Spaulding Square fixer opportunity. With some work this could be your Family Dream Home, backyard with pool 4 entertaining, 4 bedrooms 3.5 bath & office. Terrific living room with fireplace, formal dining room and bar set up.” No mention of the fact that Nancy Thompson and family, as well as a series of others, had rather unfortunate stays in the home, but to horror fans the structure is easily recognizable as Freddy Krueger’s preferred haunt (the current homeowner’s decision to change the door and trim color from blue to green isn’t fooling anyone). —Sean Decker

During our recent interview with Wes Craven for the Paris, Je T'Aime DVD release, we got the director to chime in on New Line Cinema's proposed prequel to A Nightmare On Elm Street.

Can you give us any news on the development of the A Nightmare On Elm Street prequel?

Wes Craven: No, I couldn't, because I'm not privy to any information about it. (Laughs) No, it's true. I haven't heard anything about it. I've been kind of buried in my own projects. But New Line hasn't contacted me, or anything like that.

Can you give us any word on anything that you're working on right now?

Wes Craven: Yeah, well... let's just say that a couple of projects that we've been developing are looking like they might well go forward, but I think right now we're still not making the official press release. There are going to be a couple of things going forward in the coming months, for sure.

Quedaria cojonudo
