It's been on and off more times than Pammy and Tommy Lee - but according to a report on Aint it Cool News, the troupe behind "The Goonies" seem pretty confident that the long-planned sequel to the 1985 hit will ultimately happen.
Jeff Cohen, who played Chunk in the Dick Donner/Steven Spielberg original, fielded questions at this past weekend's "Goonies Never Say Die!" event in Astoria, Oregon and was, not surprisingly, asked about the status of the sequel.
Cohen said he was contacted by Steven Spielberg last year about the sequel, and loved the sound of the storyline they were throwing about for the second serve. According to the actor, the original cast, Donner and Spielberg were all keen to go but the studio, Warner, were not.
According to Cohen, there are other interested companies and investors willing to finance the sequel, but because Warner owns the rights - that's still no help.
Director Richard Donner told attendees of the event that he thinks it'll still get made. "Goonies 2 will still happen," the director said. "Provided enough of you keep complaining and sending in letters."
