En próximas semanas iremos conociendo más y más películas, hasta completar las casi 200 que se exhibirán en la edición de este año.

Muy buen cartel el de este año en Toronto. Una ciudad que se nota que vive con pasión el cine.
Habrá que ver el detalle de las películas, pero a las Loving, Arrival, etc..y otras propuestas más indies (que vienen de Sundance) como Manchester by the sea o The birth of a nation, e incluso a la de Bayona, se une mi interés especial en lo nuevo de Rob Reiner.
Algo me dice que puede volver a ser un hito en su carrera, con ese Woody Harrelson como el 36º Presidente de los EEUU, Lyndon B. Johnson.

Por cierto, que justo antes del Festival de Toronto, entre el 2 y el 5 de septiembre (aprovechando el final del verano con el Labor day weekend), los ojos se centrarán en Telluride.

El año pasado en el Telluride film Festival pasaron importantes películas como Carol, Anomalisa, Beast of no nation, Steve Jobs, La habitación, Spotlight, Sufraguistas, 45 años o El hijo de Saúl.

Propongo hablar de este festival en este hilo, por lo juntos que están en fechas.

Espresso: Las películas del Festival de Toronto 2016

El pistoletazo del inicio de la temporada de premios tiene su fecha marcada. Será el 8 de Septiembre con el comienzo del Festival de Toronto en su 41ª edición que se prolongará hasta el 18 de Septiembre. Este año la cinta que inaugura no es que otra que “Los siete magníficos” de Antoine Fuqua mientras que “The edge of seventeen” de Kelly Fremon Craig pondrá el cierre.

¿Hay alguna película producida este año que no se vaya a ver en Toronto?

Pues si... es un festival que cada vez quiere abarcar más y más. Este año son 397 las películas, series y documentales que se van a poder ver en él. Por un lado está muy bien, porque los asistentes pueden ver en un solo lugar, tanto lo ya presentado en otros festivales como los nuevos estrenos de la temporada, aunque por otro la cantidad de films hace que su impacto mediático sea algo menor que otros festivales (los perfectos ejemplos son Venecia y Telluride). Pero bueno... los últimos años les ha ido muy bien, y en este momento es el escaparate perfecto para los primeros estrenos de la temporada de premios.

De todas formas, por concretar un poco lo interesante, aquí va una pequeña lista con los "must see" de esta edición:

Por cierto, este año se rendirán también tributos en esta pequeña ciudad de Colorado a Casey Afleck, Pablo Larraín y Amy Adams. Los dos primeros se encuentran ya allí, para presentar de paso dos películas: Manchester by the Sea y Neruda, respectivamente...





Larraín estará también dentro de pocos días en Venecia para presentar Jackie...


... y ya que he abierto brecha, le dejó el seguimiento al amigo Tomas, que de seguro flipará con lo que allí ocurra

Tomo la palabra

Aún son pocas las críticas que hay, pero generalizando, hay que decir que el recibimiento por parte de los críticos en Telluride a Sully ha sido de notable, mientras que para Moonlight es de sobresaliente. Y es que la homosexualidad entre la raza negra no ha sido un tema aún lo suficientemente tratado y menos, de manera tan interesante como ahora, con esta película de Barry Jenkins.

De Una aún hay menos críticas disponibles, pero parece que la cosa pinta muy bien, destacándose a Rooney Mara, en esta película sobre abuso sexual.

Ayer ocurrió una cosa que pudiera parecer normal, pero tan extraña en un mundo tan egoísta como el del cine.
En el Q&A de la película Sully, Tom Hanks (que ya está de vuelta de todo y puede decir lo que le plazca) se saltó todas las costumbres de elogiar y hablar solo de su film, y no paró de elogiar al musical La la lan, de Damien Chazelle.

Estuvo un rato largo hablando de lo que supone como novedosa propuesta y lo sano que es que llegue a tener éxito en una industria donde las secuelas y la falta de riesgo dominan el panorama.
Un musical, con unas canciones que no conoce nadie, y unos personajes también desconocidos para el público,...
"si la audiencia no abraza este topo de propuestas, como algo maravilloso, estamos todos condenados"

Ha venido a decir que el mundillo del cine es muy egoísta, la industria del entretenimiento, pero que cuando uno acude a la sala de cine es para ser transportado a otro lugar distinto no conocido antes (cosa que La la land cumple con creces)



El propio Eastwood reconoció que no había visto la película de Chazelle, pero señaló que él también había tenido dificultades para obtener financiación para Sully.
Chazelle, al parecer, no pudo continuar con el antiguo proyecto de este musical, sino hasta que terminó Whiplash y fue todo un éxito.



Lo dicho, Tom Hanks, un tío generoso.

Aquí el director de uno de los hits más grandes este año en Telluride, Moonlight, que como The room el año pasado, va de la mano de A24. Barry Jenkins es su nombre. Habrá que recordarlo.

Interesante artículo que cubre una de las grandes inquietudes del cine actual. Señala que las películas no han muerto, sino que se han vuelto más pequeñas.
Pone de ejemplo a Moonlight, que parece que hay consenso en que ha sido la gran triunfadora de Telluride 2016



Otras con gran repercusión en las montañas de Colorado han sido Manchester by the sea



También han triunfado La, la, Land, Arrival o Sully, propuestas más conocidas de antemano
