Given the large amount of negative press it had earned in the build-up to its release, World War Z genuinely turned out to be quite a decent film. Granted, it didn't have the most notable resemblance to the Max Brooks novel on which it was based. Yet, the Brad Pitt-headlined feature overcame having its back third restructured late in the day, and went on to gross $540 million at the box office in 2013. So World War Z 2 seems kind of inevitable. And it is... assuming of course, it can ever get off the ground. We'll explain:
None other than David Fincher (Fight Club, Gone Girl) could be behind the camera, and according to THR, that's now a done deal. Fincher, who has made three previous pictures with star/producer Brad Pitt, was initially asked to come aboard World War Z 2 by Pitt and has apparently been convinced by Paramount's new CEO, Jim Gianopulus.
The question is: why? Well, apparently Fincher likes a take on the story pitched by Dennis Kelly, creator of the British series Utopia (Fincher was working on an American version of Utopia for HBO, in fact, but it got scrapped over budget issues). If all goes well, you could see World War Z 2 in theaters by 2018 or 2019.
