Suena a producción carísima, veremos.

    Me paso ahora!
¿Veremos?.

Netflix series 'The Witcher' and new HBO show 'The Nevers' both reportedly filming in Surrey

Over in Cobham, Painshill landscape gardens has been closed since Wednesday (February 26) due to a filming crew using the site.

Pictures taken from the nearby A245 showed a large number of trailers and filming equipment on the grounds, with Painshill itself not saying what it was being produced there.

Pink signs attached to nearby road signs read phrases such as "SND BASE", "SND CARS", "SND TECHS" and "SND LOC", but did not give away any telling hints.

A separate source has since got in touch with SurreyLive to say that the filming is for a new HBO drama called 'The Nevers', which is seemingly due for release in 2021. Nothing has been confirmed by HBO, which has been contacted.

The show is listed on IMDb as starring Nick Frost, of Hot Fuzz fame, Laura Donnelly, Elizabeth Berrington and James Norton, among others.

Information about the series describes it as: "An epic tale following a gang of Victorian women who find themselves with unusual abilities, relentless enemies, and a mission that might change the world."

American-based HBO, which is also famous for making Game of Thrones among many other hit programs, has described it as a "sci-fi drama" that will be directed by Joss Whedon.

Filming at Painshill concluded on Friday (February 28), with the site open again to the public from Saturday (February 29).

"My character is a lot closer to me than any of the other ones have been. I say funny things, and I don't cry, and I don't have a dark troubled past - and it's kind of cool!"

Predeterminado Re: HBO | The Nevers, de Joss Whedon

Grande.

I Guess We Now Know Joss' Length.

For a short part of the interview, she spoke about her next big project:

    THE NEVERS!

And when we say big project, we're not kidding.

In the clip above (which we've edited down to just the juicy bits!) Christine talks briefly, in as much detail as her NDA will allow, about just how huge The Nevers is going to be.

We knew HBO was throwing a lot at this show, but from what we hear here, they're throwing EVERYTHING at it. We're talking late seasons of Game of Thrones... but with far better writing.

One small fact that she lets slip... We've suspected as much, for a while, but now have semi confirmation: Season 1 of The Nevers is going to be 10 episodes long! We can also assume from past HBO series that those episodes will be 50/60 minutes in length.

I think this is a really strong length for an opening season as it gives AMPLE time to build characters, set up the world, and sketch out a decent first arc.

There's also lots of great details about how intense their filming schedule was:

Christine compares working on each episode to working on a large film. It really feels like HBO is taking all the lessons from filming grand epics like Game of Thrones and WestWorld and putting all of that know-how into The Nevers.

So, assuming the world doesn't end in the next few months, and we get back to filming by the end of the year at the very latest... I think we're in for something legendary, people!

Predeterminado Re: HBO | The Nevers, de Joss Whedon

Aparte comparto entrevista publicada hoy mismo:

James Norton on the Timeliness of ‘Mr. Jones’ and Working with Joss Whedon on HBO’s ‘The Nevers’

You’re also attached to Joss Whedon’s sci-fi TV series The Nevers, which sounds very cool. Have you already shot that? Is that finished?

NORTON: That’s very different from Mr. Jones. No, we were half-way through. I think we’ve shot about five episodes. We’re basically almost exactly half-way through. We’ve got about five more to shoot. We’re filming in London, and Joss is here. The first half of the shoot went really well. We’re really excited about it, and I think HBO is excited about it. Unfortunately, we were just one of the many productions who were cut short, but there is every intention to complete it. We haven’t had any clear dates yet, but there are lots of conversations going around, in the UK in general, about what measures we can put in place to protect everyone. I talked about being blessed with someone like Gareth Jones, but Joss Whedon is a whole other type of blessing, but one which I’m very grateful to be able to experience. His mind is something extraordinary, and I’m in awe of it, with his creativity, energy, inquisitiveness and humility, all mixed in one. The man wields immense power, intellectually and as a director, and yet he’s the most humble, soft-spoken and self-deprecating person on the set. I have a lot of love for Joss.

That world sounds really interesting, and the descriptions of each of the individual characters sound very interesting. What was it about your character that made you want to explore him?

NORTON: If you’ve read the character description, that says it for me, really. It’s the world, it’s Joss, and it’s character. The interesting thing is that I’m still yet to fully learn who Hugo Swann is ‘cause we’re only half-way through. Part of the processes is the actual making and telling of the story, and so much of his journey is still to come. I’ll be better positioned to answer that question in a few months time. The great thing about Joss is that he’s all about character, so you’ve got this incredibly larger than life, very big, playful character who’s pansexual and sex-crazed, and he runs this club. It’s all very big and delicious and gaudy. If it was in the hands of a different director or writer, I’d be a bit more wary. But the great thing about Joss is that you can be assured that he’s all about character, so there will always be a heart and a soul and a subtext underneath the fun and the theatricality. You can really chew on something fun and outlandish, and at the same time, find an inner rootedness and a quality that Joss will never, ever let you deny. Like I said, I’m still working out this madman that is Hugo Swann, but it’s been a joy so far.

Is there a genre that you’d love to work in, that you haven’t gotten the chance to do, or that you feel you haven’t gotten to do much of?

NORTON: That’s a good question. One thing which this role is allowing me more to explore is comedy, which I haven’t really been allowed to do. When I was in university, I loved dabbling in comedy. It was never my reason for going into the industry, but I’ve loved performing in the little bits of comedy that I’ve done, and I love watching it. At the same time, I would never claim to be a comedian or a comedic actor by nature. You’re walking out into this world where there are some masters at play, and I don’t want to lay claim. The Joss project is a really fun challenge because it has that comedic side to it, but it’s still rooted very much in drama and character-driven drama. But I would love to maybe have a go at comedy. To be honest, I’m up for everything. As long as the character is there, the genre of whatever it might be is a Trojan horse. It’s always about character, front and center, for me. If the character is fully formed, but it’s comedy or horror or sci-fi, or whatever, I’m up for it. I’m up for it all, as long as the person is there. That’s key.

    ----

UPDATE: The Nevers To Resume Production

We've learned that production on The Nevers is set to resume in September, six months after it came to a screeching halt thanks to our ol' pal COVID-19.

It was only a few weeks ago that we'd caught wind that pre-production on the remaining episodes had begun.

According to Denis O'Hare and James Norton (the former having appeared on our podcast to discuss The Nevers, American Horror Story and more), Joss & Co. were half way through filming season one when the pandemic put the kibosh on getting it completed on time.

While filming on The Nevers is set to get underway in just under two months time, other productions have already resumed filming. The long-running series Coronation Street and Emmerdale (random examples, I know) have already resumed filming in the UK, while Netflix is getting ready to resume shooting The Witcher on August 17th. Production on the Avatar sequels continued last month in New Zealand while Jurassic World: Dominion, a UK based production, resumed on July 6th.

But if news of The Nevers resuming production isn't enough to brighten up your Monday, then how about this bit of insight: during an interview with CG Garage Podcast, James Cooper, a VFX Supervisor on The Nevers, briefly mentioned designing "a very cool creature" for the show. I hadn't dared to hope for monsters and creatures in The Nevers, but........I was hoping for monsters and creatures in The Nevers! Whatever creatures the show delivers, I imagine they'll be of the Frankenstein variety and less Hellmouth creature-demon. Only time will tell.

In other news, The Nevers co-star Amy Manson recently shared her experience of being on set and meeting Joss for the first time:

"It’s the most exciting thing I’ve done. It’s mind-blowing and was an amazing moment to get the part."

She continued: "When I had the audition, I rehearsed the piece for weeks and put a picture of Joss' face up so I could talk to it every day and I wouldn’t be nervous for the audition. When I went in to meet him, it was just like seeing a mate. Joss is the nicest human being, a total genius. I’ve never been on such a happy set in my life. My Mondays are like my Fridays and that’s a great way to live."

Helston barber Andy Perry's new career with Joss Whedon on The Nevers

    Pero dentro dicen:

He has since gone on to take charge of the majority of the hair for the new film version of Agatha Christie's Death On The Nile starring Kenneth Branagh, scheduled for release in October, before moving on to upcoming science fiction drama series The Nevers with Joss Whedon, which also involved some work putting on and removing prosthetics.

His next job is to get back on set to complete The Nevers, the HBO sci-fi drama spearheaded by Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon. Though production halted during lockdown, Frost is looking forward to returning to the fold: “I’m still a fanboy, and to have him direct me… there’s still a part of me that squeals inside and thinks, ‘That’s the man who invented Buffy!’ It’s more anxiety, to be back acting, but I’m happy that I get to do it with one of my heroes.”
    Dr. Morbius ha agradecido esto.

Entrevista en Collider a Nick Frost

“I just finished my stuff like a month ago. We started shooting in October 2019, and then I did like a week on it. And then that was kind of my stuff done. And then in January, we started to get a sniff of lockdown, and then they just shut down. So I didn’t do anything for a year. And so I picked up my scenes like a month ago and finished the season. It looks fucking crazy, it looks amazing. I think the script is fantastic. My character’s like a serial lunatic.

Joss is amazing — like as a person, not as a director. He’s really giving and generous of spirit and of time. But when he’s on set, he’s so driven and focused and mumbly. And a lot of the time it’s like, ‘Oh my god, I’m not sure what you want!’ Especially when you’ve got a face mask on as well. It’s a kind of amazing way to work. But I love it. I love the character, and I think people are just gonna fucking love it. It’s complicated and it’s fresh.”

    (...)

According to Frost, “Apart from the fact there’s a supernatural element, it just feels totally different. I mean, even me with a broad kind of lexicon of knowledge of the supernatural and the genre, I was reading the scripts thinking, ‘Fucking hell, this is gonna be incredible.'” Holy cannoli, that’s quite the cosign! When will we get to see the Whedon-directed series (as Frost said, “He directed all my episodes, and I think he directed them all”) on HBO? That might take a little longer: “I don’t know how HBO are gonna drop it. I think COVID might have split a big season of 10 into two of five, but that literally changes all the time, so I don’t know.”
