The grandaddy of all fantasy films, Warner Home Video will release the classic 1933 King Kong on November 22nd. Featuring a newly restored and digitally mastered transfer from the rare nitrate film elements, the big ape will be available as a two-disc special edition packed with extras. Among other things, look for an audio commentary with effects masters Ray Harryhausen and Ken Ralston, "RKO Production 601: The Making of Kong, the Eighth Wonder of the World" (a two-hour, seven-part documentary created by Peter Jackson), a feature-length documentary on 'Kong' creator Merian C. Cooper and a trailer gallery. The two-disc set will retail for $26.99.



A more lavish Collector's Edition box set will be available as well and will come packaged in a collectible tin with a 20-page reproduction of the original 1993 souvenir program, original poster art postcards and a mail-in offer for a vintage theatrical poster. Retail for this set is $39.98. Warner also will release a four-disc collector' set featuring the two-disc King Kong along with The Son of Kong and Mighty Joe Young. Retail for this is $39.92.

Mientras los derechos sean de Manga films, lo dudo mucho.
Lo mismo pasa con la E.E de Ciudadano Kane editada en Z1 por Warner, que por aquí ni la hemos visto y parece que va para largo el que la veamos.

Maldita sea Manga, a ver si quiebra de una vez...
Cada poco siempre me tropiezo con ellos: ediciones chapuzas, otras que tienen los derechos y no las sacan, otras que retrasan una y otra vez...

Si algo bueno tienen los remakes, es que sirven para que salgan EE de las clásicas... Le tengo muchas ganas a ésta y a la EE de La Guerra de los Mundos...

Mientras los derechos sean de Manga films, lo dudo mucho.
Lo mismo pasa con la E.E de Ciudadano Kane editada en Z1 por Warner, que por aquí ni la hemos visto y parece que va para largo el que la veamos.

Vaya tela. Sí señor, que salga ya. La tripleta es encantadora, pero el título primero es todo un monumento a la fantasía. A ver si por fin puedo jugar al tiro al plato con la de Manga...

* Featurette 1: "Stop-Motion Wizardry" (approx. 15 mins) - A documentary on how stop-motion animation breakthroughs were achieved on "King Kong". This will be demonstrated using original and replica armatures of Kong and the dinosaurs. This edited piece would include interviews with film historians, visual effects artists and animators, voice-over narration, stills, and a demo done by "The Lord of the Rings" Animation Supervisor Randy Cook and stop-motion legend Ray Harryhausen. This piece would culminate in a recreation of one of the visual effects scenes from "King Kong" done by Randy Cook and directed by Peter Jackson.

* Featurette 2: "The Mystery of the Spider Sequence" (approx. 15 mins) - This piece is a documentary in three parts that leads up to the 25-second recreation as a pay-off. The first part covers the legend of the Spider Sequence, how it supposedly appeared in the original cut of the film (Ray Bradbury saw it as a child), how it was edited out, lost for decades, rumored to exist and sought by fans and historians alike. The second part is Peter Jackson and his team taking on the job of recreating it (interviews, etc.), Weta studying the only existing photos to build the spiders and miniature environments, the NZ Miniatures Dept. shooting the sets and skilled stop-motion animators bringing the creatures to life. Finally, the third section and pay-off is the recreation cut together with sound effects and Max Steiner music.

* Featurette 3: "Where is Kong Today?" (approx. 8 mins) - This documentary takes viewers on a quest to find the original Kong. We'll track down artifacts left at the old RKO lot in Culver City and be given an exclusive tour by Peter Jackson of his personal collection of hundreds of models, maquettes, glass paintings, and... Kong himself.
* Interview with Peter Jackson talking about "King Kong", anecdotes about its production, its historical significance and its influence on filmmakers and filmmaking. (approx.10 mins)
* Raw footage of Peter Jackson conducting a tour of his extensive collection "King Kong" memorabilia and artifacts. (approx. 60 mins un-cut)

Es curioso Diodati el tema de la edición de Manga, fué precisamente esta la que me hizo "actualizarme" y comprar un reproductor DVD, en aquellos tiempos me parecio una maravilla, claro no sabia nada de ediciones restauradas ni cantidad de cosas que he ido aprendiendo en este "diabólico" foro.... Por culpa vuestra ahora me he vuelto de lo más quisquilloso y exigente con estos temas :grrr :grrr yo era un hombre feliz con mis cutre-ediciones. Como os Odioooooo!!!!! :atraco

Propongo hacer una colecta de todas las de Manga y devolvérselas a esta buena gente en una caja con un lacito, a ver si se dan por aludidos... Que esto ya clama al cielo...

Thecrusher, a mí me sucedió algo parecido. Pero cuando usé la proyección en pantalla grande (3,5 m de ancha) cantaba más que un jilguero. Algunas pasan la prueba del televisor, pero en cuestión de proyección a mayor escala... "sólo el penitente pasará". )

...o las juntamos todas amontonadas en una plaza de Madrid, alquilamos una apisonadora, llamamos a alguna televisión nacional para que sea notaria de los hechos, y colocamos una pancarta grande que diga PIRATAS NO - CHAPUZAS TAMPOCO, ...y hala!, a salir en el telediario sacándoles los colores a estos buenos señores.

PS: ¿Con la mano de Peter Jackson de por medio creeis que esto quedará inédito por un problema de derechos de Manga? Capaces son de editar aparte el documental.

Aqui se esta hablando mucho que si cajitas, que si extras, y creo que nos estamos olvidando de lo mas importante.

¿Alguien tiene imagenes sobre como ha quedado la restauración y como estaba antes de esta?

A falta de confirmación, si Warner mantiene el nivel de otras restauraciones de clásicos, la calidad está garantizada...

Schoedsack, Ruth Rose, Fay Wray and Robert Armstrong), the 2005 I'm Kong: The Exploits of Merian C. Cooper documentary, a gallery of trailers for other films by director Merian C. Además, que está por ver que esto llegue aquí, que nunca se sabe... Crucemos los dedos...

Sin ir más lejos, el documental del segundo disco de la EE de Citizen Kane, está subtitulado al inglés, así que nunca se sabe.

DVDTimes amplía más los detalles de la edición. Se confirman mis sospechas de la ausencia de subtítulos en los extras, aunque ¿quién va a impedir que la compremos?

The Son of Kong (1933)

The filmmakers who created King Kong kept the excitement going with this sequel released the same year as the original. Robert Armstrong reprises his role as Denham, paired with a new damsel in distress, played by Helen Mack. After the two rescue Kong Jr. from a quicksand pit, they are rewarded with his devotion and protection when he defends them from a variety of prehistoric monsters. Composer Max Steiner and special effects expert Willis O’Brien return to provide the film’s score and stunning stop-motion animation.

The Last Days of Pompeii (1935)

The grandeur of an era and the terror of nature at its deadliest come to the screen in this classic starring Preston Foster, Basil Rathbone, Alan Hale and Louis Calhern. Foster plays a simple blacksmith, Marcus, who rises to glory and riches and crosses paths with Jesus and Pontius Pilate. However, Marcus’s wealth means nothing when Mt.
