As many of you may already know, this past summer's remake Poseidon underwent some heavy, last-minute editing before it was released into theaters. According to reports, some 20-25 minutes of footage was excised from the final release print.
One of the gripes many people had with the lackluster two-disc special edition DVD released in August was that it was sorely lacking in any substantial special features. To the point, where the hell were all those deleted scenes? Well, we've heard from a couple credible sources that the DVD was hastily assembled and released so that production could continue on the real special edition: the HD-DVD.
Now here's what we've been told, the HD-DVD version will feature both the original 98-minute theatrical cut, as well as a 125-minute extended version specially prepared by director Wolfgang Petersen. We have also heard that Petersen and actor Josh Lucas have recorded a commentary track for the theatrical version. At the very least, the HD-DVD promises to include an in-depth behind-the-scenes In Movie Experience (IME) feature.
The Poseidon HD-DVD is currently scheduled for release on December 5th. As usual, everything should be considered rumor until official details are released.
