Quote:
This is a very preliminary review of the projector as I spend about 1 hour with it watching mostly HD.
I was invited to the Panasonic offices at Universal Studios to get a demo of this projector. They have some really cool stuff there including a high end JVC QXGA, a huge Christie digital projector and another huge panasonic projector. The room that had those projectors had a huge screen. It had to be somewhere like 300 inches diag
Outside the projector, the most interesting thing I saw was a Blueray DVD recorder that is already being sold in Japan for about 3K. This model actually had component ouputs but no component inputs. It recordes HD off the air
A quick review of the projector. It does a 1000 lumens and has a contrast of 2000:1. It weights only 7.9 pounds and the fan noise is rated at 26db. Its real quiet as basically no sound was played during the movie (which was annoying) and the only noise we heard was humming noise from the professional monitors that were in the same room. It includes both a manual vertical and horizontal lens shift. Mounting this projector is made easier by the fact the lens shift allows you to mount the projector 63% above and below the center line. So basically although its not a great amount, it can be mounted above and below the screen. Another nice feature is the throw. For a 100 inch diag screen, the projector can be mounted anywhere from 10 to 20 feet from the screen.
MSRP is 2999 and will be in the hands of dealers sometime in October
Panasonic hired a Hollywood colorist to tweak the projector in order to get the best possible colors. They used three movies (Moulin Rouge, Phone Booth and LIfe or Something LIke it) as their reference for how the colors should look like
Before I get into how the picture looks, I want people to know what my reference is in how a picture looks. I have a William Phelps calibrated JVC Dila G11, which was and or is considered one of the better projectors in regards to picture quality. However, it is also well known for not having the best blacks out there and compared to the DLP projectors out there, my projector has lousy contrast.
Again, as I said before, we only watched HD. The first thing I looked into was screendoor. This projector has virtually none as they employ a smooth screen process. It wasnt until I got about 2 feet away from the screen where I started seeing pixel structure. As I was told by other people that the smoothscreen process isnt always 100%, sometimes screen door comes in and out occasionally. I have to say for the one hour I spend with it the process seemed to work perfectly and I never saw lines come in and out.
I thought that the picture itself is outstanding and compares very closely to much more expensive DLPs without any issues with rainbows or headaches. The black levels totally blew away my projector and the shadow detail was very good. Are the black levels as good as DLP?, I cant really say as I dont have anything to compare with, but I have to say that for the price and the picture quality, I cant image anyone not loving this projector.
Now as I said, this was a prelimanary review and didnt have any experience using the projector with DVDs. In my opinion I have never seen a HD projector that didnt look good with HD. Some people like reviewing projectors with the best signals, but I prefer reviewing it with if not the worst signal, then the signal that will be used the most. Panasonic kindly allowed my to take home the projector for a week or so, and I will be watching mostly DVD although I will probably connect my D-VHS machines to watch a couple of movies. After I do so, I will have a better ideal what this projector can really do.
If anyone in the LA area is interested in getting a demo, let me know
Oh in case, anyone cares, the demo was shown ona 110 diag Studiotek 130. The image was plenty bright

...

Quote:
It was shown on a 54x96 Studiotek 130. Brightness was very good and I would assume with a 20% dropoff in brightness that it wouldnt hurt the picture.
Couple of more facts. The bulb is rated at 3000 when in high brightness mode. Although they have a low brightness mode, they dont know know the life although they suspect it will be around 5000 hours just like the the AE500. They dont recommend going with the low brightness as it defeats the dynamic iris. The dynamic IRIS can be turned off.
In regards to the Firehawk, I dont think there would be any issue with it. Traditionally we always recommend the firehawk with LCD and although the blacks were good, the firehawk may even help it some. As these are established screen rooms at Panasonic (although they had no chairs in this particular room and I was tired of standing for an hour) the screen was already in the room and probably wasnt necessarly chosen for this projector. It looked very good with the Studiotek and may look better with the Firehawk
4x3 material is no problem for the projector as it will put in the middle of the screen and I guess you will have black bars on the side. It does have the option of of horizontal expansion so the 16x9 screen will be filled, the center should look pretty normal and the sides will be slightly stretch out.
It will also take letterbox and fill a 16x9 screen as well as take 2.35
and fill a 16x9 screen. They use their own Panasonic scalers
The room was totally light controlled with black walls. I thought it looked very good. Does it need less gain, I dont know, I like having gain, I am a big supporter of the Silverstar and 1.3 isnt exactly huge
Vertical banding, at least on HD, I didnt see it
What did we see, Moulan Rouge, PHonebooth (sound familiar) Bend it like Beckam and a dvd sampler they made for themselves

Quote:
Input includes, VGA input, HDMI, component and S-Video, Probably composite, but who cares

...

Quote:
Spent some time with the projector last night. I got to tell you that running video without sound is really annoying. I didnt see any video banding, but to be honest, I have never seen it before so not totally sure what its all about. I didnt see anything that wasnt suppsed to be there.
I will be having about 7 people on Thursday, some who have had the 500 and know how to look for VB, so we will have a better understanding after Thursday.
I guess that my biggest issue with projector is really an issue with LCD vs Dila. You can really see the difference in the fill factor. That is the spacing between the pixels is much tighter on Dila than it is on LCD and at least to me there is a difference in picture. Of course one is $5000 more than other so you have to take that in to consideration.
I will be writing the final review on Friday after my guests have given me their opinion.

¿No?

Country Spain (16 % german V.A.T.)
eso es q hay q sumarle el IVA?

Buenas.

Quote:

Quote:
Quantity Brand Description Price Freight
1 Panasonic PT-AE700E 1550,00 46,00
-----------------------------------------------------------
Total price article 1550,00 EUR
1 Transport insurance 6,00 EUR
1 Forwarding expenses 40,00 EUR
Total amount =========
1596,00 EUR

Saludos

Noticias frescas.
"This projector handles 1080 in 50hz and 720p in 50hz!!!!!
This has been a problem for pal dvd's on AE500. But 720 50hz doesnt work on the vga port, only component and hdmi(dvi). 1080 50hz will work on component vga and hdmi(dvi)."
oeeeeee oeeeeeee
