Director Feng Xiaogang's epic The Banquet is now out on DVD! The Banquet features multiple-award-winning actor Ge You, Feng's long-time collaborator, as a cunning emperor. The internationally popular Zhang Ziyi returns to Chinese cinema to portray a queen who experiences intense inner struggle. Handsome Hong Kong actor Daniel Wu and best actress winner Zhou Xun from Perhaps Love also excel in their roles. Inspired by Shakespeare's Hamlet, The Banquet unfolds a story about power struggle in the royal court which eventually climaxes at a tension-filled night banquet.
The Banquet promises a thrilling visual experience with its carefully designed details. Tan Dun and Timmy Yip, both Oscar winners for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, team up again for this film, offering wonderful art direction and captivating music, respectively. Famed action choreographer Yuen Woo Ping designs the dazzling fighting scenes to enrich the film's aesthetic dimension, which deserves as much applause as its fascinating story.
Zhang Ziyi stars as the young Empress Wan, who used to be in love with Prince Wu Luan (Daniel Wu) but is now his step-mother. The late emperor's brother Li (Ge You) comes to throne and sees Wu Luan, now living away from the palace indulging himself in arts, a great threat to his power. He sends assassins to kill Wu Luan but the mission fails. The young prince returns to the palace and meets Empress Wan, who is newly married to Li, and a young girl Qing (Zhou Xun) who falls for him. Emperor Li decides to host a banquet, but everyone has a hidden agenda when they attend...

Quizá no he mrado bien, pero no recuerdo haberlas visto. Lo que no indica la ficha de Yesasia y que sí trae -por lo menos la mía- son cuatro posters. Uno de ellos bastante grande.

Re: The Banquet
Como curiosidad y complemento...
The Banquet Movie Soundtrack (Deluxe Edition) (China Version)
Director Feng Xiaogang's The Banquet, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival on September 3, has attracted the most attention among the Chinese films at the festival, as it features the strongest cast with Zhang Ziyi, Zhou Xun, Ge You, and Daniel Wu. Tan Dun, whose original score for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon triumphed at Oscars in 2001, has created captivating music for the epic film The Banquet. However, quite the opposite of the Chinese classical style in his previous award-winning attempt, Tan Dun brilliantly interweaves Chinese cultural elements into Western classical style music. Famous Mongolian singer Teng Ko Erh, award-winning actress Zhou Xun, and "Super Girl" singing contest 2nd runner-up Jane Zhang sing in different styles. Internationally famous pianist Lang Lang performs the accompaniment, enriching the soundtrack with his tender piano music.
"Song of Yue People", a recurring motif in the film, has two versions, both included in the soundtrack. Teng Ko Erh's mellow voice fills the song with such a strong melancholy that even the accompanists wept during recording. While Teng's version goes with a swordplay scene in the film, the other version in Zhou Xun's crystal clear voice fits perfectly with a scene showing her dancing. With classic Chinese lyrics, the song carries the poetic grace of Chinese tradition. The theme song "I Reward Love with All I Have" by Jane Zhang, on the other hand, is the most accessible song in the album and should be very popular with the audience.
