Parker is sitting behind two TV screens watching Chris and Joe in their star-striped hummer.

"Joe is still a little high," says Parker after the scene cuts. Parker is talking to his puppeteers controlling the marionettes. These puppets are one-third size of humans and are chasing terrorists in their mini-hummer; there are no actors at all in this film. This is the set of Team America: World Police, Matt Stone and Trey Parker's newest effort to subvert the feature film medium. The guys have replaced their cut-out characters of South Park with complex marionettes to create a new film that mocks a good number of parties, from Jerry Bruckheimer to Kim Jong Il.

"I think (we're going to piss off) everybody. We keep saying that people are going to be very confused as to whose side we're on and that's because we are too. I think we're like most Americans who don't really know and we are willing to admit we don't know," Parker said.

The film stars all marionettes that make up Team America, a secret task force that infiltrates terrorist organizations and makes a big find when they discover a dictator who has a weapon of mass destruction. The movie is largely a satire of Jerry Bruckheimer films.

"It's a musical in the sense that it's a Bruckheimer musical. We really realized that Bruckheimer films are musicals. They take Aerosmith songs and put them against montages. We are just taking every quintessential Bruckheimer moment," said Parker.

The genesis of the project came from Parker and Stone watching Thunderbirds re-runs on TechTV. Their agent informed them that Jonathan Frakes was directing a remake of the show, but he was doing it live action.


"We heard that Jonathan Frakes was doing it. And it was live action and we were like 'Why would you do it live action?' The show was crap, in terms of story and script," said Parker.

What the guys didn't account for was how tough using marionettes was going to be. The guys hired some of the best puppeteers in the business. The Chiodo brothers, whose recent work included Elf, designed the faces of the puppets. The Chiodo brothers, along with puppet designer Norman Tempia, also helped developed the animatronic heads of the puppets. It's the first time a marionette's head has contained animatronics. The servos in the head make everything in the face move; there are nine servos in the male leads of the film.

The enormous number of people involved includes a 200 person crew, 95 puppet heads (55 of which are mechanical heads), 90 bodies, 60 marionettes, and 30 rod puppets. There are over 270 characters in the film. Matt & Trey are also very staunch about not using computers to enhance any of the effects in the film. The puppets strings will remain in every frame of film.

The locations that the Team visits include Paris, Cairo, and the Panama Canal; the Team's headquarters are contained inside of Mount Rushmore. Because all of the sets are built to 1/3rd scale, the immense amount of detail has to be exacting. For example, in the Cairo scenes, there is a miniature postcard rack that actually spins and displays pictures of the desert.

Luego me entere q era de los south park y entendi muchas cosas.

He leido por ahí, que la pelicula es bastante conservadora y que va a saco contra Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Michael Moore, Janeane Garofalo o Georger Clooney. Es decir, los son de izquierdas de verdad y que se atrevieron a ir contra Bush y cia.

I remember a cordial hello when you guys were beginning to be famous guys around Hollywood at some party. I remember several times getting a few giggles out of your humor. I remember not being bothered as you traded on my name among others to appear witty, above it all, and likeable to your crowd. I never mind being of service, in satire and silliness.

I do mind when anybody who doesn't have a child, doesn't have a child at war, or isn't or won't be in harm's way themselves, is encouraging that there's "no shame in not voting" "if you don't know what you're talking about" (Mr. Stone) without mentioning the shame of not knowing what your talking about, and encouraging people to know. You guys are talented young guys but alas, primarily young guys. It's all well to joke about me or whomever you choose. Not so well, to encourage irresponsibility that will ultimately lead to the disembowelment, mutilation, exploitation, and death of innocent people throughout the world. The vote matters to them. No one's ignorance, including a couple of hip cross-dressers, is an excuse.

Hay algo q no entiendo de la polemica de sean penn y matt stone and company.
Vamos a ver, si penn, robbin y michael moore estan en contra de bush y son criticados en Team America, es por q matt stone y parker estan a favor de bush? o no tiene nada q ver?
Yo creia q parker-stone eran contrarios a bush y el conrservadurismo americano, solo hay q ver ver south park y la pinta q tiene esta peli. Entonces por q esta polemica? Personalmente, creo que a estos dos les gusta tocar los huevos a la gente y provocar.

En este caso, he leido que la peli va a saco contra los chicos de la izquierda de EEUU. Muchos dicen que el film es más cercano a la derecha que a la izquierda.

Al parecer, Team America es más una parodia de las pelis de acción yankis (Buckheimer...) que otra cosa.
