Aquí se habla algo de esta edición, lo raro que en play pone Universal cuando esta película siempre ha sido de Sony en dvd (bueno antes columbia tristars).

El Cristal Oscuro es una de mis películas favoritas de siempre. Ya de pequeño me fascinaba la dirección artística, pero cuando he crecido no sólo no le he perdido el gusto sino que me ha cautivado más todavía. Es una auténtica obra maestra con un poderío visual que en mi opinión aún no se ha igualado. Maravillosa.
Parece que habrá suerte con CRISTAL OSCURO y que en UK tendrá castellano, según las especificaciones técnicas de dvdactive. Lo único que me extraña es que no incluye subtítulos en español en el listado facilitado... De hecho, tampoco incluye subtítulos en italiano, pese a tener también audio en este idioma. Confío en que sea un error, porque entonces es raro, raro, raro...

Qué ganas de volver a verlas, hace años que no las veo...Pero 25 euros no pago, y como en mi ciudad no hay FNAC...
Sobre la calidad de imagen, he leido un par de reviews de Cristal Oscuro y la imagen la ponían muy bien, no es de referencia pero está a muy buen nivel, lo cual me sorprende porque con los años que tiene y siendo una película rodada en condiciones complicadas (rodar con marionetas tiene muchos problemas de luz, efectos especiales, grano, etc), pensaba que la calidad de imagen sería muy justita... Me alegro de que se vea tan bien como comentáis y comentan las reviews... :agradable
La edición de Uk es la misma edición de aquí?? Es que quiero hacer un pedido y así aprovecho.
Por cierto me gusta mucho más la portada Americana, alguien sabe dónde descargarse las portadas?

The Dark Crystal - The Director's Cut (RARE footage and all original dialogue!)

Early versions of The Dark Crystal were a bit different than the version we see today. Jim Henson and Frank Oz originally sought to create a much darker story that relied more on the audience and less on voice-overs and inner monologues explaining the plot. In this version there's no narrator, Jen's inner monologues are gone, and the Skeksis hardly ever say anything in English (Aughra speaks some Skesis too!). This version is much more modern and a little darker with this original audio and the slightly different score. Some of the scenes are moved around too, which adds to the surreal feel of the original film. Some test audiences were more casual moviegoers and responded negatively to this version so the Henson team redubbed the ENTIRE film to help explain the plot to the audience up front and make things more obvious.
Sadly this beautiful version was mostly lost with a few rough-looking (yet still redubbed at times) scenes making it to the DVD and Blu-Ray versions. Demonoid user Aikousha saw this early test version when he was a kid and took it upon himself to track down this little bit of film history. What he found was a very nasty black & white "workprint" copy (used by the Dark Crystal production team) on a VHS tape that was very grainy and was almost unlistenable due to tape compression and SEVERE hiss and noise. But the important thing was that it was a mostly intact version of the beautiful vision of Jim Henson, Brian Froud, and Frank Oz. The Dark Crystal, as originally intended!
Workprints are used by the production crew and this one has all the trappings of one. Grease marks on the film, rough cuts, tape slowdown, and unfinished special effects among other things. Now, this workprint is still out floating around on the internet but it's really painful to watch and the sound is atrocious so I took it upon myself to clean up the audio, sync it to a clean treatment of the video, include some scenes that were unavailable anywhere else, and recut a watchable version that played out like the workprint.
Disclaimer: It's still a little rough. My computer had lots of slowdown since I was syncing to a HQ vid and some of the missteps in editing weren't noticeable until the 5 hour render was complete! They're minor and not frequent so it might only take you out of the moment briefly.
Black and white scenes were included from the workprint occasionally since they're not available elsewhere. They include: A matte painting of landscape in front of Skeksis castle that pans down to the 'lost' Jen swimming scene, an extended clip of 'Trial By Stone', an extended scene in Aughra's home, with a little extra at the end.
Deleted funeral scenes from the DVD are restored to their proper place.
There is also some beautiful alternate music composed by Vangelis here and there
Credit goes to Demonoid user Aikousha for finding the workprint and making it available. If anyone wishes to attempt restoring the black and white scenes I'll gladly include them in a new edit of the film. For the record I attempted to contact the Henson company earlier this year when I had about half of the edit complete to ask about sharing this on youtube but they never responded to my inquiry. Also, I just found out today (Dec 2nd) that someone else attempted this same idea and called it "The Darker Crystal" and released it in September. This is NOT his version. I haven't seen his version but I'm sure mine is similar to his.
I began working on this over 2 years ago and finally finished it last week. Lots of work but it was worth it. Rant over.

EDIT: DIRECTOR'S CUT CLARIFICATION (In case you didn't read the whole description)
This is indeed an edit that Jim Henson and Frank Oz made themselves back in late 1981. This is not a "fan edit" and I didn't change the edit that was seen in the copy of the workprint. This vision is one that Henson and Oz cut together themselves but was never made widely available in a home video capacity. Henson and Oz of 1981 would, and did, approve of this cut enough to show it to test audiences but after negative feedback there were changes to the dialogue. Hopefully that clears things up and I hope the Henson company can appreciate the historical value of having this version available again.

Supongo que la versión USA vendrá con latino, ¿no hay noticias de que el digibook vaya a salir en UK como el de Dentro del Laberinto?
Me autorespondo yo: parece ser que el bluray de UK solo trae inglés, italiano y alemán (según la contracarátula). De todos modos no parece que vayan a sacar el Digibook allí.

Comentar que ya tengo el UHD de la película, que viene con disco BD, hice el pedido con recogida en tienda física (Fnac), pero ha llegado antes de la fecha oficial de salida (día 7).
he probado por encima el disco BD (ya que no tengo aun UHD) y se ve de maravilla. a decir verdad, no es una mejora aplastante con el anterior blu-ray que ya se veía de maravilla (he estado cotejando ambas ediciones), pero diría que se nota una leve mejora en contraste, un poquitín más de definición, y los colores un poco más saturados. Los menús son exactamente iguales a los de la edición BD anterior, y tiene 11 extras, frente a los 9 de la anterior edición.
Ah, y por lo que he visto así por encima, los cromas han sido retocados, por ejemplo el de la escena del castillo cuando empieza la película, se ve mejor que en el anterior BD, donde las montañas del fondo cantaban un pelín.
Cuidado eso si con el lomo del steel, cuando lo he abierto, se ha rajado un poco, no sé si ya venía roto o si es tan delicado que aunque lo he abierto con sumo cuidado, se ha rajado... en fin, no lo devuelvo porque es un follón, me aguanto y disfruto de los discos.

Vista la edición remasterizada 35ª aniversario, en Blu-ray (de momento no puedo verla en UHD 4K),
en total es mi 9º visionado de esta película.
Pues una maravilla, la película luce igual de analógica que siempre, pero con una gran definición (si bien siempre hay planos más borrosos, supongo que ya depende del estado de conservación del material original, y sobre todo donde hay trucajes fotográficos estos se resienten más), ya la anterior edición en Blu-ray se veía de lujo pero esta edición supone un nuevo salto en calidad (y doy por sentado que en UHD 4K pues aún más) y diría que el principal valor de esta remasterización es el color, ahora mucho más intenso y vivo, más colorido, con una gama cromática más variada y lujosa, se aprecian mil detalles de color que antes no se veían. El contraste por lo tanto también ha ganado mucho, con unos negros profundos (y eso que no la he visto en una TV OLED, así que aun debería verse aun mejor en televisores mejores que mi Full HD). Una gozada.
Y la película, pues es una de mis 10 películas favoritas de todos los tiempos, todo lo que diga sobre ella es poco. Una Obra Maestra que no me canso de ver.

La verdad es que me ha sorprendido para bien esta edición.
No esperaba que se pudiera dar este nivel de calidad en una película tan antigua.
Además con muchos extras y una edición metálica trabajada.

Steelbook que aún no he recibido y estoy temblando de pensar qué llevará dentro, después de ver lo que han metido dentro del steel de Laberinto... miedo; tengo miedo.
