Gracias por abrirlo, BodySnatcher. Es, de largo, la mejor editora a nivel mundial en estos momentos; tanto por la selección de títulos, como por el extremo mimo que dedican a cada una de sus ediciones, con toques únicos (véase el obi-strip para un Blu-ray, elemento comúnmente usado en el mundo del disco de vinilo). Me recuerda a Criterion en sus inicios, incluso en los del DVD, donde de verdad se aventuraban a abrir camino cinéfilo… Hoy solo se dedican a asentar su marca con escaso riesgo selectivo y mucha reedición de su catálogo más manido en ultra alta definición.

Solo reseñar que, como sucede con cada nueva tanda de pre-orders mensuales, si se echan todos al carro, se aplica automáticamente un 10% de descuento. Y con estos cuatro no cabe ninguna duda al respecto.

Yo compré "La madre muerta" de Bajo Ulloa y "Trenque Lauquen" película argentina de cuatro horas de Laura Citarella. Ambas ediciones excelentes tanto por imagen, diseño del producto y extras.
La lástima es que si no llevan subtítulos en castellano (que no suelen llevar, claro) o la peli es en castellano, no las puedo comprar.

Coincido en que Radiance es un sello muy bueno.

Nothing is Sacred

From 1946 to 1965, Luis Buñuel directed 21 films in Mexico, the country that became his naturalised home. Towards the end of this period, the great master of surrealism would meet two of his most important collaborators - the husband-and-wife duo of producer Gustavo Alatriste and actress Silvia Pinal - and together they would create three of his most provocative and enduring works: Viridiana (1961), The Exterminating Angel (1962) and Simon of the Desert (1965). Presented here in new restorations, all three films are frequently hailed as some of the greatest of all time. All of what makes Buñuel one of the greatest of directors can be found within them: the startling imagery, the uncompromising surrealism, the wicked humour, the unapologetic eroticism, and the overwhelming disdain for contemporary boundaries of good taste.

In Viridiana, Pinal stars as a former nun who, believing she has been defiled by a relative, abandons nunhood and attempts to repent and lead a morally pure existence by turning a mansion into a shelter for vagrants. Hugely controversial on release, this brilliant satire remains shocking today, and was voted the best Spanish film of all time by Spanish critics in 2016.

The Exterminating Angel is one of Buñuel's most extraordinary and enduring works: after a night at the opera, a group of bourgeois party guests realise that they are inexplicably unable to leave the dining room they are sequestered in, and quickly descend into savagery. An influential blend of horror, comedy, drama and social commentary, the film was named one of the 200 greatest of all time in the 2022 Sight and Sound Critics Poll.

Simon of the Desert is a typically outrageous and provocative commentary on organised religion: a parable of Simon, the would-be saint who lives an ascetic life at the top of a ten foot pillar, the film features a memorable turn from Pinal as the Devil, and an unforgettably bizarre ending.

Following a slick post office robbery two police officers see their investigation turn into one of high-level corruption and institutional intrigue. Bo Widerberg follows his earlier investigative thriller The Man on the Roof with a focus on realism and procedural detail. Adapted from a novel by Leif Persson and starring Sven Wollter (The 13th Warrior), Widerberg’s film channels the style of his earlier crime masterpiece but presents a new world. Gritty and often intense, The Man from Majorca is another classic of Nordic noir.

Yokohama BJ Blues

When his police detective best friend is killed, down-at-heel private eye and part-time blues singer BJ (Yusaku Matsuda, The Game Trilogy) gets the blame. He must start his own investigation to clear his name, but what he uncovers is a tangled web involving crooked cops, drug-dealing gangsters, the city’s underground gay and biker scenes, and even his own past. A loose remake of Robert Altman’s The Long Goodbye that also draws from Visconti’s Death in Venice, this was Matsuda’s break with his action hero image. Ojo con la nueva restauración 4K de El ángel exterminador porque la única que hay que es la de Criterion luce poco mejor que el DVD

¿El hombre de Mallorca? ¿por qué se llama así? Ni está rodada en Mallorca, ni tiene nada relacionado con Mallorca... ¿????

La restauración de Radiance puede ser mejor que la de Criterion? No sale en ningún país en 4K?

Qué pinta tiene la edición de Buñuel. Los que ya habéis comprado algo a Radiance, ¿sabéis si suelen hacer Black Friday o rebajas de vez en cuando? No se si tener paciencia o pasar por caja ya.

Rebajas han tenido hasta la semana pasada, por un cambio de almacén. Pero siempre de títulos antiguos de catálogo, nunca los más recientes (para estos tendrías que esperar más de un año, probablemente, y puede que para entonces lo que te interese esté agotado).

En resumen: mi consejo es que les pidas directamente a ellos lo que te interese. Te saldrá igual (o más barato) que en amazon, tampoco tendrás que pagar gastos de aduanas y probablemente también obtengas unos mejores gastos de envío, tras la última subida que aplicó este. Aparte, que ya algunos de sus próximos lanzamientos no se pueden comprar allí, como sucede con otros títulos en UK.

World Noir Vol 4

Arguably, the story of noir is one of the cinema of France and the USA in conversation with one another, and presented in this set are three classic French noirs from the 50s and 60s that clearly take their inspiration from the Golden Age of Hollywood noir: Henri Decoin’s Chnouf (1955), Édouard Molinaro’s Back Against The Wall (1958), and Marcel Bluwal’s Paris Pick-up (1962).

CHNOUF

Henri (Jean Gabin, Touchez pas au grisbi) is brought in following a successful stint in the US to head up operations by gang boss Lisky. Tasked with increasing sales and reforming the drugs distribution network he unpicks every aspect of the business, but pushers don’t want to change and the cops are on his tail. From the creator of Rififi, Auguste Le Breton, and brought to the screen by Henri Decoin (Not Guilty), the influence of American noir is given a French translation as we see the then nascent drugs trade depicted in remarkable detail. Out of the inky shadows scenery chewing support is given by a rich cast of wonderful character actors including Lino Ventura (Illustrious Corpses), Albert Rémy (The Train) and Magali Noël (Rififi).

BACK TO THE WALL

Jacques, a rich industrialist, sneaks around an apartment where he bundles up and disposes of a dead body. His troubles started three months ago, his wife, Gloria, was having an affair... To get his revenge he sends Gloria anonymous letters in a scheme to turn her against her lover, a scheme that leads to murder. Ingeniously plotted, this methodical noir by Édouard Molinaro (Witness in the City) bathes in atmospheric chiaroscuro while its pulpy thrills, adapted from the novel by Frédéric Dard (Paris Pick-up), keeps the audience guessing until the final moments. Starring Jeanne Moreau (The Bride Wore Black) as the adulterous wife, this twisty noir is made available in the UK for the first time.

PARIS PICK-UP

Recently released ex-convict Robert Herbin (Robert Hossein, Rififi) meets Marthe (Lea Massari, L’Avventura), a beautiful Italian woman and her daughter. They share some flirtatious glances and then she invites him back to her home where they discover her husband’s dead body. Unable to bear witness to a crime due to his parole Robert flees. Guilty about her situation Robert stays close by where he discovers the body has inexplicably disappeared. With its tender depiction of character and relationships director Marcel Bluwal engineers gripping tension with the expertise of Hitchcock or Clouzot. Adapted from the novel by celebrated crime writer Frédéric Dard (Back to the Wall), Paris Pick-up is released for the first time outside of France.

Los golfos

A group of poor youths tear around Madrid pulling scams and petty crimes. As one of their gang prepares to perform in a serious bullfighting competition, they plan a heist that will raise the money to finance his entry. Breaking with tradition by filming in the streets and utilising documentary techniques to give the film an urgent resonance, Carlos Saura and producer Pere Portabella (Viridiana) were announced as a powerful new force in Spanish cinema when the film was nominated for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. Suffering curtailed distribution by Francoist censorship, this new restoration reinstates previously removed footage and presents the film as originally intended.

The Betrayal

He is promised a safe return after one year in exile, but this vow is broken and he becomes a fugitive chased by his own clansmen. Disillusioned by the bushido code of honour, he realises there are only two ways out: vengeance or death. From director Tokuzo Tanaka (The Snow Woman), a former assistant to Akira Kurosawa, this cruel jidaigeki stands alongside such notable works of the genre as Harakiri and Sword of Doom with its classic mix of honour codes and samurai action. Daiei Gothic Vol 2 - Japanese Ghost Stories

Japan’s classic ghost stories are brought to the screen by masters of the genre, Tokuzo Tanaka (The Snow Woman) and Kimiyoshi Yasuda (Yokai Monsters: Spook Warfare).

In The Demon of Mount Oe, a group of mighty warriors is sent to eliminate a demon who steals women from the imperial capital of Kyoto. On the way, they face a satanic bull, a giant spider and a diabolical witch, but the closer they come to their goal, the more they realise that the demon they’ve been ordered to kill is far more human than they were led to believe.

In The Haunted Castle, a blind monk is killed in a cowardly manner by a samurai lord. When the monk’s sister is ordered to become the lord’s concubine, she commits suicide and transfers her grudge to their black cat, who assumes the human form of one of the lord’s ladies-in-waiting and begins to wreak havoc around the castle court. The lord’s Machiavellian right-hand man (Rokko Toura, Kuroneko) and a young swordsman (Kojiro Hongo, The Bride from Hades) combine forces to solve the mystery and stop the supernatural menace.

In The Ghost of Kasane Swamp a samurai’s wife tries to repay her husband’s debt with her body but is caught in bed with the money lender and they are both murdered by her husband who dumps their bodies in a nearby swamp. Shingoro and Oshiga, the money lender and samurai’s children, find a curse has been passed to them as they each try to recover the money.

Newly restored in 4K, three more stories from the Daiei studio represent the Japanese ghost film at its most lavish and chilling.

Ya tengo Daughters of Darkness en 4K de la mano de Blue Underground -que la presentó, incluso, con portada holográfica-, pero me parece que volveré a picar con la de Radiance. Lástima que Malpertuis solo la ofrezcan en Blu. Lo mejor en este caso, y ante semejante tanda de lanzamientos, es hacerse con todo el paquete y obtener, así, un 10% de descuento.

FIRST TITLE NIGHT OF THE JUGGLER COMING NOVEMBER 17TH IN 4K UHD

The new imprint will focus on revitalising left-of-the-dial cult classics with new 4K restorations, newly commissioned special features, and limited-edition packaging

7th August 2025 - Radiance Films today announces the launch of Transmission, a new imprint for UK Blu-ray and 4K UHD releases, focusing on offbeat cult classics and underappreciated genre film-making.

Equally inspired by late-night TV oddities, all-night cinemas such as the Scala and 42nd Street grindhouses, and the video shop experience of the 80s and 90s, Transmission will invite new audiences to recapture that same thrill of discovery with its upcoming slate of left-of-the-dial UHD and Blu-ray titles.

The first Transmission title will be 1979’s Night of the Juggler, a long-unavailable action-crime cult-classic that sees the mean streets of 70s New York become a battleground as an ex-cop (James Brolin) mercilessly attempts to track down the psychopath (Cliff Gorman) who has kidnapped his daughter.

Night of the Juggler will be released in a dual format 4K UHD and Blu-ray on November 17th, with the film newly restored in 4K and presented in Dolby Vision HDR, and accompanied by an array of special features, a 40 page bound book, poster, a set of lobby card postcards, and limited edition packaging.
