Puede que ese achatamiento-muy similar al de "El puente sobre el río Kwai"- se deba al proceso anamórfico de 35mm del proceso CinemaScope tan característico de aquellos años, que no se solucionó hasta la llegada del sistema Panavision, ¿no?

The Man From Laramie is presented on Blu-ray with an AVC encoded 1080p transfer in 2.55:1. According to materials accompanying this release, this was sourced off the original camera negative and granted a 4K scan, and the results are really gorgeous, with the exception of a couple of somewhat strange, probably inherent, issues. This slightly wider CinemaScope aspect ratio might initially seem to suggest that The Man From Laramie was shot in something akin to Fox's then brand spanking new CinemaScope 55 process, since this is a vintage 1955 film, though aspect ratio junkies will know that CinemaScope could project as wide as 2.66:1, even if the norm was usually around 2.35:1, depending on the type of soundtrack involved. Even earlier CinemaScope films like The Robe have appeared on Blu-ray in this somewhat less prevalent aspect ratio as well. What's really evident in this return to the film's original aspect ratio is the slightly "warped" appearance of the CinemaScope image when, for example, Mann and iconic cinematographer Charles Lang pan across the expansive vistas of the American southwest.

Parece obvio que la imagen resulta bastante más normal en 2.35:1 que en 2.55:1. Lo que se aprecia en las capturas no es la deformación propia de las primeras lentes de Scope (el consabido efecto paperas, una variante atenuada del ojo de pez) sino que afecta a todo el fotograma.
No dudo que se rodase originalmente en 2.55:1, pero me temo que lo que se ha hecho en este caso ha sido partir de un print 2.35:1 y pretender respetar el 2.55:1 deformando lo que tenían.

Soy de los que aprecian una deformación inaceptable en las capturas, pero aun así me pareció que valía la pena arriesgarse y adquirí la edición de Eureka. Y después de haberla visto puedo decir que, salvo en un par de brevísimos primeros planos, no pude ver rastro alguno del achatamiento de marras.
