Happiness of The Katakuris, The (aka: Katakuri-ke no Koufuku)

When guests finally arrive, most meet violent ends before getting the chance to eat their complimentary breakfasts. Terrified that the discovery of the deaths will spell ruin for the business, father Masao (Kenji Sawada) convinces the rest of the family to help him bury the bodies. Meanwhile, daughter Shizue (Naomi Nishida) is romanced by a naval officer who claims to be a British secret agent and the nephew of Queen Elizabeth II. ("Diana!" he laments to Shizue. While the storyline meanders badly and the violence is depicted with uncharacteristic modesty, the musical sequences are terrific. The songs parody a wide variety of styles, from romantic ballads to full-blown Rodgers and Hammerstein production numbers to flashy karaoke videos complete with onscreen lyrics. Anyone with a weakness for song-and-dance dementia on the level of Forbidden Zone and Cannibal! The Musical will find all this irresistible. The Happiness of the Katakuris will put a song in your heart, then stick a knife in your chest.
The Katakuri clan, innkeepers who live on the depopulated slopes of Mount Fuji, band together with tuneful Von Trapp-like determination when their guests keep turning up dead. The most rousing numbers arrive early: Upon discovery of the first body, reaction shots are given the full music-video treatment, replete with dry ice and blue light. In a trippy, literally levitating romantic duet, the daughter is wooed by an alleged U.S. Navy pilot, who later claims to be from the British royal family and speaks warmly of "Aunt Elizabeth."
"Miike Mania!" also includes Audition, the Venus-flytrap splatter flick that induced fainting spells at Film Forum last summer, and another local debut, The City of Lost Souls (2000). Again, this is Miike in comparatively gentle mode?a bloody head-dunking, shot from inside an unflushed toilet bowl, is the only scene that might occasion use of your Ichi the Killer promotional sickbag. Rocky race relations, a favorite theme, return with a vengeance: the Japanese vs. the Brazilians vs. the Chinese in the back alleys (and, um, underground caves) of Shinjuku. The film nominally concerns an on-the-lam love story between a Brazilian-Japanese gangster (football star Teah) and an illegal Chinese immigrant (Fallen Angels' Michele Reis), but the plot is muddy and quite beside the point. The almost meditative mood takes center stage; the more eccentric touches include a computer-generated cockfight, feverish cocaine toothbrushing, and a ping-pong duel. Stay for the end credits, which complicate matters with a mystifying homoerotic twist.</center><hr></blockquote>

Es muy interesante la relación de Vian con el cine. Además de otros cientos de cosas, era guionista y escribió unos cuantos que no sé si llegaron a ver la luz. Si os gustó su brutal y genial 'Escupiré sobre vuestra tumba' en otro de sus libros, 'La calle de las arrebatadoras' viene recogido un guión de esta obra. No recuerdo la editorial y no estoy muy seguro de que sea ese el libro, pero lo miraré al llegar a casa...

La editorial es Icaria... Es que a mi también me gusta mucho Boris Vian... Y la relación de Vian con el cine es tan "intensa" como que murió viendo en el pase previo la adaptación que habían hecho de su novela "Escupiré sobre vuestras tumbas". Dicho lo cual, nunca he visto ninguna adaptación suya al cine... Nada, a esperar Chloe.

Solo me faltaba encontrar este post sobre pelis japonesas, chinas, coreanas y demás. Yo tambien me declaro un fan de estas peliculas, y la verdad es que me habeis hecho cogerle aún mas ganas.

Para mi, Mentiras, también supuso una decepción enorme. Más si cabe porque la avalaban ilustres vaineros del foro.
De momento, la manga ancha de la dependienta del C.I. me permitió cambiarla por otra.

Mentiras es de muy flojita para arriba.
A mí lo único que me aportó la película fue un importante grado de incredulidad ante su discotequera e inenarrable banda sonora (todavía no la he asimilado).
Aunque claro, ayer mismo recordaba con un grupo de amigos cómo ninguno me hizo caso el día del estreno español de El proyecto de la bruja de Blair y acabaron pagando sus entradas como corderitos...

Mentiras me decepcionó también a mí. Se desinfla conforme avanza la peli; el comienzo me gustó, ciertas imágenes, cierto regusto perverso, cierto falso realismo de falso making of, en la presentación de personajes... interesante, pero insuficiente. Tanto fustigamiento acaba sin aportar nada y aburriendo.
Otra decepción fue 'La isla' de Kim Ki-Duk, otro ejemplo de violencia puesta al servicio de la nada, ni atmósfera, ni talento visual ni nada de nada. Este tipo de directores deberían verse unas decenas de veces 'Onibaba' de Kaneto Shindô. Eso sí es perversión y erotismo, y talento.

Pues a mi LA ISLA de Kim Ki Duk, si q me parecio bastante buena, y creo q la violencia hace su funcion, la escenita de los anzuelos, tiene su significado, y no me parece para nada gratuita...
Aunque no te gustara LA ISLA, si puedes mirate BAD GUY, tb del Kim Ki Duk este. Aqui no veras violencia desagradable, solo una historia algo chunguilla.
Por cierto, pq me parece q tras ver 2 pelis del payo este, trata a todas las mujeres como Putas??? Pq en Bad Guy y en La Isla las deja finas.....

ATTACK THE GAS STATION - WHA SAN GO
Acabo de ver otra gozada coreana: Attack the Gas Station. De una premisa tan simple como es que un grupo de 4 jovenes macarras deciden atracar una gasolinera, se crean una tras otra, situaciones cada vez más rocambolescas.
Desde luego, la peli está muy bien, y te partes con ella. Tiene puntos autenticamente delirantes y es una propuesta refrescante para pasar un buen rato.
Cada vez me sorprendre más el cine coreano. Le ha tomado el relevo claramente al cine de Hong Kong como meca del cine asiático. Y encima, sus medios técnicos son del primer nivel. Solo hay que ver pelis como Wha San Go para comprobar que no tienen nada que envidiar a los efectos de Hollywood.
Y ya que hablo de Wha San Go, otra gran recomendación para todos. Un peaso peliculon. Es como mezclar un episodio de Ranma con los efectos de Matrix. Una auténtica gozada. Humor, artes marciales, efectos especiales en una producción coreana de 1º linia.
Como he dicho, los coreanos son los que parten el bacalao ahora por alli, segun parece.
