Actually, I thought it was the other way around. In recent years in Hollywood there has been much more frontal male nudity than female, especially in comedies (e.g. Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Observe and Report). I can't remember any female frontal nudity in Hollywood in recent years. Is it because of the flimsy excuse that male nudity is funny, whereas female nudity is offensive?
Anne Hathaway was comfortable with doing those scenes and she looks good, so why should it be a problem? If she felt exploited then that would be a different matter. But I think audiences would prefer to see female nudity than male nudity.
It just looks better and I don't think female audiences are that interested in seeing male actors naked or am I wrong? In Uni, I remembering asking some female students and they said they prefer to see a male actor shirtless or rear nudity rather than full-frontal nudity.
btw, I can't remember seeing any frontal shots of Hathaway in the film, it was mainly topless.
