"El carnaval de las tinieblas" fue un proyecto cinematográfico que surgió en los años cincuenta, cuando Ray Bradbury y Gene Kelly se conocieron. Ray escribió el guión, para que Kelly lo dirigiera. El proyecto se frustró, y entonces Ray lo convirtió en novela, una de las grandes del genio.Cita:

Años después, se rescató el proyecto por parte de Disney, y dirigido por Clayton. Lo que no sé si parte del guión original de Bradbury, o el propio Bradbury volvió a adaptar la novela...
Parece ser que Disney metió mató en el montaje final, y rodaron un nuevo final, más comercial, por parte del director de la casa Vincent McEveety. Se carga un poco la peli, pero aún así es fascinante, a mi juicio.
Y sí, la novela "La tienda" de Stephen King es un plagio descarado de la de Ray Bradbury.
Según la ficha de IMDB, el propio Bradbury se adaptó a sí mismo a la hora de escribir el guión: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086336/, aunque eso de que el mismo escritor versione su obra a la hora de convertirla en película no es garantía de absolutamente nada,,, ya lo hemos visto muchas veces con algunos guiones de Stephen King :pota
Pues si, por lo poco que he visto, ya me parece una peli extraña de por sí, no quiero ni imaginármela protagonizada encima por Gene Kelly :blink con número musical final y todo, como apuntó el Abuelo Igor unos posts atrás: de todas formas seguro que, al menos, les hubiera quedado mejor que Xanadú :lol

Me refiero a si Bradbury tomó la novela, y a partir escribió el guión, o si cogió el guión primitivo, previo a la existencia de la novela, y lo colocó tal cual. O incluso, una tercera opción, cogió el guión primitivo e hizo retoques incorporando detalles de la novela (si es que eran distintos)Cita:

"I wrote a short story called ‘The Black Ferris’ – it was in WEIRD TALES. And when I was thirty two years old I went in a store in Beverly Hills and I bought a painting of a Traveling Circus on a big bridge and I put that in my home and it was in my home and it was around for years and I looked at it and I said, ‘Oh, my god, [this artist] is reading my mind’ – I’d been thinking about a circus traveling in a short story for years. And at that time I met Gene Kelly, the wonderful dancer and singer. And I said to Gene Kelly, I loved your film SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN. It is the greatest film of a musical that was ever made. And Gene Kelly became a very good friend. He loved me and I loved him. He kept inviting me to see his movies over a period of five years. And one night in 1956 I went to see his movie, INVITATION TO THE DANCE, and lo and behold, I said to my wife, Oh, my god, I would love to write something for Gene Kelly. I’d love to work for that man. She said, ‘Why don’t you get something out of your file and write it and give it to him?’ So I wrote a screenplay for Gene Kelly based on a short story called “The Black Ferris” and my experience with this painting and I handed in the screenplay the next day called DARK CARNIVAL.
And Gene Kelly called me and said, ‘My god, this is great. I want to make this as my next film. Can I take it to London and New York and Paris and try to get some money and make the film?’ And a month later Gene Kelly came back to me and said, ‘I’m sorry Ray, there’s no money.’
‘Don’t tell me you’re sorry – I’m honored that Gene Kelly wanted to make a film of my script.’
And he gave me the script and I turned it into a novel, called SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES. So you see how weird life is? A thing is one thing here and another thing over here. And when I finished the book, it was turned down by Doubleday. They didn’t want to publish it. And Simon and Schuster published it instead and I did a script on it for 20th Century Fox and Sam Peckinpah. It was turned down. Revised the script and Disney came along and they said they wanted to do the film. I said you can’t do it unless you use my director which was Jack Clayton, and if you don’t use him you can’t make the film. And so they made the film using my recommendation, and behind my back he hired an English film director to revise my script. And they made the film and they had it reviewed, and there 200 people there – this was the first version -- in 1982, and the audience hated the film. They were completely silent. When the movie was over they rejected it and my daughter came to me and said, ‘Daddy what’s going to happen next?’ I said ‘I don’t know, but I’m waiting for the phone to ring.’ And one day the phone rang – it was Ron Miller, the head of Disney Studios, saying ‘Mr. Bradbury, will you come in?’ I said ‘I most certainly will.’ So I went to his office at Disney Studios. And I stood in the doorway. He looked up and said ‘Don’t tell me I told you so.’
I said, ‘There’s no time for that. Rehire the actors. Rebuild the sets. Put me in charge.’ And I said, ‘Get rid of the music. Throw out the composer. Let’s find a new composer. Let me write the direction. Put me in touch with the film’s editor – I want to edit the film to make it work better. And the ‘Dust Witch,’ when she gesticulates at the boys, dust should fall from her fingers.’
And he said, ‘You’re going to become the second director?’
‘I most certainly am. And we’re putting in the scenes that are missing.’
So what you have tonight is the second version of SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES, the film that I directed. I’m very proud of it.
So thank god, because you know, King Vidor, the famous film director, was my honorary father forty years ago. And I told King Vidor one night, ‘Someday I’d like to direct just one tiny thing, one small thing. I would love to do that.’ And he said, ‘Ray, the day that you direct something, I will carry the camera.’ Isn’t that wonderful? That King Vidor said that to me? And I think his ghost was carrying the camera when I made this film. ”
Vaya... La parte final es muy distinta a lo que se conocía...
Y respecto al nuevo guión, he entendido que lo escribió a partir de la novela, ¿no?
Tal y como lo explica, se deduce que sí: el relato -basado en una intensa experiencia personal- es transformado por el autor en tratamiento cinematográfico para Gene Kelly; al no encontrar financiación para el proyecto, Bradbury lo transforma en novela; y de la novela, surge el guión posterior.
Y efectivamente, la intervención del propio Bradbury en el "arreglo" de la película de Clayton difiere bastante de la versión según la cual fue la productora la que entró a saco en el montaje e introdujo cambios para satisfacer al público reticente.

A mí me frena comprarla lo que se comentó por aquí sobre el episodio de Jack el Destripador en el que tiembla la imagen. Precísamente en ese episodio... qué mala pata. Para los que la tenéis... ¿es muy molesto ver ese episodio con ese defecto?

¿Alguien sabe si han editado Profecía maldita de Frankenheimer? He leido que sale en marzo, pero ni idea de fechas... ¿Alguien la ha visto o se trata de otra edición hipotética?
Se anunció como parte del trío que inauguraba la temible colaboración Paramount/Impulso. Supuestamente salían este mes, pero no se ha vuelto a saber nada del asunto. Quizá Paramount tema los resultados de confiar en una editora caracterizada por sus impresentables chapuzas.
En ese caso sería la primera editora grande que pensaría en su imagen y no sólo en su bolsillo. No creo...
Pero vamos, nadie debería trabajar con Impulso. Ya veríais como cambiaban de táctica.

A mí no me han dicho la fecha. Hay que tener en cuenta que el miércoles por la tarde grabamos los audiocomentarios, y el posible que para el lunes 8 tenga ya todo el material para que sea recogido por mensajería. No sé yo si en una semana van a tenerlo todo a punto.
Esa fecha es la que me dijeron para lo de Holmes. Entendí que las dos cosas salían simultáneas...
Carlos me comentó que para marzo, pero sin precisar fecha concreta. En contestación a lo que he escrito aquí, me dijo que se ajustaba bien a los planes sin demorarlos. O sea.
Supongo que tendrán todo listo, añaden el audio tuyo en media hora, y a la "imprenta" - o como se diga en el caso de discos -

Es una edición recomendable. En el Festival de Estepona la regalaban, por eso tiene ese diseño del amigo Alfonso Azpiri.
