October 07, 2004 - Leonardo DiCaprio spoke with USA Today about his upcoming movie The Aviator and its subject, eccentric billionaire and aviation pioneer Howard Hughes. "He was the last private man," Leo told the paper. "He was one of the most iconic men the country has ever seen, but he had a strong need for privacy. I can empathize with that."


Deeming Hughes "Citizen Kane-like," DiCaprio thinks he "was a dreamer and a visionary. Hughes was a force in Hollywood, in aviation, in about everything he did."

To capture this "visionary," DiCaprio immersed himself in research. "So many people know his story, I have to come off as authentic as possible," said Leo. "It's really intimidating."
