Denon's HDMI 1.3 Receivers "scheduled for mid-year introduction"

Back in August I wrote “HDMI 1.3 Not as Close as You Might Think” with emphasis on the as you might think. Obviously HDMI 1.3 devices were in the works but with CEDIA right around the corner, I was doubtful we’d see them announced in significant numbers, if at all. As it turns out 2007’s Consumer Electronics Show (January 8-11) in Las Vegas may offer our first glimpse at HDMI 1.3 capable devices (the PS3 notwithstanding of course)

Denon appears ready to announce that all of their A/V receivers for 2007 (scheduled to be released in the middle of the year) will support HDMI 1.3; read 36-bit color-depth and 1080p pass-through. But as you might have already guessed the good folks at Denon (and presumably Marantz) have more in-store than just the HDMI 1.3 capabilities for the yet-to-be-launched receivers.

Per usual the new receivers will be offered in entry, mid and upper-end models and as noted above all the new Denon (and again presumably Marantz) models will support HDMI 1.3 and 1080p pass-through, however there are some exciting new features specifically reserved for the mid to upper-end models.

According to Audio DesignLine some models will offer video processing from Silicon Optix (HQV) while others will be equipped with Faroudja or Analog Devices video processors. In addition some of the mid to upper-end receivers will natively decode Dolby Digital Plus. In addition to those features the high-end receivers will also offer internal decoding of Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master HD Audio.
