I had the chance to chat to "Indiana Jones" star John Rhys-Davies this week in Sydney, but unfortunately I'm heading overseas, so had to turn it down. If I'd had the chance, I would've definitely asked him what the heck is going on with "Indiana Jones 4". Thankfully, someone else did.

News.Com.Au features an interview with the actor, saying that Indy Jones is still very much alive. I was talking to Steven Spielberg the other day ... we discussed a fourth one," said Rhys-Davies, who is in Australia for a science fiction convention due to his role as Gimli in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. "We're in with the chance of making something absolutely extraordinary," he added.

It was rumoured that "Indiana Jones" co-writer and producer George 'Star Wars' Lucas had shelved the project earlier this year, which Rhys-Davies confirmed.

"George Lucas had reservations about the script and he said, 'The only way I can express my reservations is making another pass at the script myself', so it's gone back at least a year.

"It is the intention of these three great filmmakers [Lucas, Spielberg and Ford] to make another one."<hr></blockquote>

Speaking with Empire Magazine, George Lucas once again denied the "Star Wars 7-9" rumours that have been circulating the Net, at least the fourth denial he's made the last fortnight about the issue.

He also confirmed the London reshooting leg is done - "I just finished shooting in London for two weeks, so the last shot of Star Wars has been shot, and now I have to cut that all in. I'm really happy with it. It's very dark, obviously, because everyone gets killed in the end. But it will make the whole six movies make sense".

Now the big one, how's the fourth "Indiana Jones" movie progressing - "We are working on the next script. Another writer has started working on it. We're just not going to make it unless it's really good," he confirmed. "One of the reasons I'm able to work with Steven so well is because every time we come to a disagreement we'll yield to the other one, which means we'll come up with a compromise that considers both sides, and one person isn't determined to have his way. It's what's best for the movie".

IESB reports that according to an interview that Steven Spielberg had on Canal+ he will start shooting the next installment of Indiana Jones in early 2005 right after he finishes "The War of the Worlds".

Right sfter Indy he expects to direct a political movie that he didn't want to talk about. Most likely "Vengeance" with Eric Bana which will chronicle the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, Germany, where Israeli athletes were kidnapped by a group of Palestinian militants. Ultimately, 11 Israelis lost their lives in that terrorist attack.

So isa final script on Indiana Jones been agreed on? No word yet on how much of Frank Darabont's script will make it to the big screen.

Si es que es evidente: con The War of the Worlds a punto de empezar el rodaje, Indy 4 no podría ponerse en marcha hasta mitad de 2005, incluso en el caso de que Spielberg volviese a hacer como con Parque Jurásico, que montó a distancia durante el rodaje de La lista de Schindler (y así quedó de mal).

George Lucas and Steven Spielberg have hired Jeff Nathanson to rewrite Indiana Jones 4, reports Variety. Aside from writing the "Rush Hour" films, Nathanson also wrote Spielberg's Catch Me If You Can and co-wrote The Terminal.

If Nathanson delivers a draft that clicks with Lucas, Spielberg and star Harrison Ford, Spielberg would still have to make the movie a priority to get it into production any time soon, adds the trade.

After doing The War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise, Spielberg was next planning to film a drama about the aftermath of the 1972 Munich Olympics terrorist tragedy.

Lucas is currently working on completing Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith while Ford is preparing to star in The Wrong Element. After that, Ford is scheduled to shoot Godspeed, a drama about a crisis on an international space station.

Nathanson made his feature directorial debut on last month's The Last Shot, which he also wrote.<hr></blockquote>

Daniel Clowes (GHOST WORLD) has signed on to write the script for BACKYARD RESISTANCE, the true story of three teens who set out to create a shot-for-shot recreation of RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK in their Mississippi town using a VHS camcorder. Back in March, Vanity Fair published an article profiling the trio - Jayson Lam, Eric Zala and Chris Strompolis - and Paramount Pictures and producer Scott Rudin (THE VILLAGE, TEAM AMERICA) picked up the rights to their story. Their adaptation came to light when Harry Knowles first profiled it on his site and eventually got back to Steven Spielberg who wrote them an encouraging letter earlier this year. IESB.net caught up with Harrison Ford and asked what the latest was on Indiana Jones 4. Frank Darabont had written a draft, but that did not receive the green light. Instead, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg hired Jeff Nathanson to do a rewrite and things are looking good.

Asked whether or not "Indy 4" will still be made, Ford answered, "No doubt about it." And while he says this next film is his, he wouldn't mind a younger actor playing Indy in possible future films.

The site added that George Lucas, who rejected Darabont's script, is happy with the new draft from Nathanson.<hr></blockquote>

As I said earlier, our man Tom Leupp was on the set of WAR OF THE WORLDS last night in Los Angeles and was able to chat with Tom Cruise, Steven Spielberg and producer Kathleen Kennedy. While Cruise mentioned that IRON MAN wasn't in his future, Spielberg said that he's still very much involved in the feature film adaptation of THE TRANSFORMERS and that a director would be announced in three weeks. In other news, producer Kennedy said INDIANA JONES 4 is still moving along with Jeff Nathanson (CATCH ME IF YOU CAN) working on the latest draft. Another Kennedy project, THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON, isn't as dead as we may have thought, she says. Variety reported that project fell apart due to budget concerns and Fincher had moved on to direct ZODIAC, a film about the Zodiac killer. But she says, "No - Fincher [is still attached]. In fact, I was just on the phone with everybody today on that. It looks like it may go forward this summer." That's promising news on all three fronts!
