Vas bien. Va, que no quiero que esto se estanque demasiado. ¿Y si te digo que la obra que nos ocupa se enmarca cronológicamente entre la considerada mejor partitura de la historia del cine ( favorita del propio compositor junto con la música que creó para cierto fantasma enamorado a finales de los años 40) y un innovador - y aterrador- trabajo realizado sólo con la sección de cuerda de la orquesta?

Se me olvidaba.... Con la muerte en los talones, de Bernie. Ésa de "Falso culpable" protagonizada por Henry Fonda contiene una partitura realmente minimalista incluso para los cánones de Herr Doktor Herrmann; es hipnótica, insomne, y produce en el oyente una sensación de desarraigo notable al carecer de estructuras melódicas de apoyo, o son muy leves, casi en su totalidad.

¿Ya que estamos, que opinión tienes de Vértigo?. Es una película que o apasiona, o no gusta nada... a la música sí te he leído alabarla en varias ocasiones.

Más de una vez he comentado ya que los tres film de Hitchcock aquí citamos, Vertigo, Con la muerte en los talones y Psicosis me parecen sus mejores obras (y lo mejor de Herrmann). Y Vertigo es mi favorita de Hitchcock, película hipnótica como pocas y a la vez perturbadora con esa vena de pasión necrófila que recorre todo el relato. Par mí una maravilla del séptimo arte.

Con Capra me pasa algo raro ya que sí, puedo pensar a veces eso que hay algo de exceso de azúcar en sus films, pero a la vez pienso que, también, son joyas atemporales..
En definitiva que Capra tiene su estilo y puede que tengamos que aceptarlo, pero por otro lado, la recompensa merece totalmente la pena.

Y la partitura de Tiomkin es arrolladora, un viaje pletórico tanto en su parte vitalista como la tormentosa y fantasmagórica (a partir de la llegada del ángel Clarence la música es de las de poner los cabellos como escarpias); y la pugna entre ambas facciones durante el desenlace, es infartante y de clavar las uñas en el sofá.

Fue un pequeño milagro y un gran regalazo que se pudiera publicar hace pocos años la partitura original grabada en el 46 cuando hasta hace poco no había teconología óptima para garantizar buenos resultados.
Sin más preámbulos, un tema muy bello que por lo menos debería sonar y dar pistas sobre su inconfundible autoría:

Cierto, la partitura de Tiomkin es una maravilla. También, junto a Capra y con James Stewart, recomiendo Caballero sin Espada, otra obra maestra en mi opinión.

A mí me parecen buenísimas todas las que citáis. En todos los aspectos. La de Capra...hace unos años te hubiera dicho que chorreaba de almíbar en exceso, pero sospecho que si la volviera a ver ahora, mejoraría mi opinión de la misma.

Yo es que me veo muy identificado en el personaje de James Stewart en Qué bello es vivir, y en general con el cine de Capra. Por tanto, que intentar ser buena persona, tratar hacer lo correcto y tener una determinada escala de valores se considere exceso de azúcar o buenismo, me parece alucinante... ya el nivel de cinismo y desencanto de cada uno lo dejamos a un lado (qué yo también tengo días malos, conste)

Por ejemplo, en Caballero sin espada, Stewart es un político honrado, vocacional, que llega a Washington y se escandaliza de los niveles de corrupción y podredumbre moral. Y lucha el sólo contra todos, cantandoles las cuarenta a la cara. Típica peli Capriana, vaya.

Tanto la de Capra como la de Hitchcock se merecen el estatus alcanzado. ¡Qué bello es vivr! podría ser calificada como una de las "azucareras"más refinadas que tras más de un siglo surcan por ahí, pero aguanta muy bien el tipo incluso en épocas más trangresoras y/o cínicas que poco tienen que ver con el espíritu expansivo del New Deal o del Plan Marshall. Ambas con el mismo intérprete, el ciudadano tranquilo por excelencia, que permite empatizar con sus virtudes, sus debilidades y sus miedos. Incluso ambas son cuentos de fantasmas desde diferentes ópticas e intenciones.

Tengo ganas de revisar ésta tanto como The Passing of the Third Floor Back (sí el título es así de largo y no tiene traducción al español; parece que nunca tuvo estreno comercial en España), que juega un poco en la misma liga (un grupo de pequeños personajes con grandes problemas y un misterioso visitante que aparece para ayudarles). Es un tipo de película -el drama o la comedia sobrenatural, sobre la que llegué a abrir un hilo- en los años 30 y 40. La muerte de vacaciones, El fantasma y la Sra. Muir, La mujer del obispo, El espíritu burlón, Jennie, La vida en un hilo...
