Variety reports that Alcon Entertainment, Intermedia and Kadokawa Pictures will produce and Warner Bros. will release an English-language remake of ONE MISSED CALL, Takashi Miike’s 2003 chiller. The original (pictured) was Miike’s entry in the post-RINGU cycle of supernatural films, in which a group of young friends receive mysterious calls on their cell phones which presage their own deaths. The story centers on one girl who gets the fateful message and must figure out how to cheat death within three days. The original is out on U.S. DVD from Media Blasters, which releases the Miike-less sequel ONE MISSED CALL 2 in a two-disc set May 16.

The director of the U.S. version is French filmmaker Eric Valette—an ironic choice, given that his own debut chiller MALEFIQUE is also slated for a redux (by Paramount and producer Neal Moritz, with John Pogue scripting) while the original still has yet to land an American distributor. The scripter of the new CALL is thriller novelist Andrew Klavan, whose books WHITE OF THE EYE (written as Margaret Tracy), DON’T SAY A WORD and TRUE CRIME have been adapted as features, and who penned the 1990 dark comedy A SHOCK TO THE SYSTEM, starring Michael Caine.

Pues a mí la de Takashi me gustó mucho su primera hora, luego la película se convierte ya una idea de olla "made by miike" vamos que no defrauda.

Yo poni como Gecko, el principio de la peli esta bastatnte bien, pero luego se le va la olla a Mike, como de costumbre. Y luego también, ese final alargado hasta la desesperación.

Variety reports that Warner Bros.’ remake of Takashi Miike’s ONE MISSED CALL is currently filming in Atlanta, under the direction of French filmmaker Eric (MALEFIQUE) Valette. Scripted by novelist Andrew (DON’T SAY A WORD) Klavan, the new movie stars Edward Burns as a detective looking into a case of cell phone messages that inform young female recipients of their own deaths. Leading the college students haunted by the bad calls is Shannyn Sossamon, who last dealt with a killer video game in DEVOUR and also co-starred in the occult chiller THE ORDER. Alcon Entertainment, Intermedia and Kadokawa Pictures USA, the Stateside offshoot of the Japanese company behind Miike’s film, are producing.

El remake seguro que le da mil vueltas, la original era un caca

Yo estoy de acuerdo con Gecko, es mucho mejor que la media de películas japonesas de terror que nos llegaron despues de The Ring, además la protagoniza mi adorada Kou Shibasaki. :amor

En cuanto al remake no me llama nada porque Edward Burns suele dar una de cal y otra de arena y Shannyn Sossamon, ya lo dice todo de ella su apellido.

Fango has learned that Warner Bros.’ ONE MISSED CALL remake, which we last told you about here, has added a couple more genre heavy-hitters to its cast: David Cronenberg film veterans Ed Harris and Gabriel Byrne. Harris has appeared in A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE (pictured left), CREEPSHOW, KNIGHTRIDERS, NEEDFUL THINGS, THE STAND and THE ABYSS, while Irish thespian Byrne notched credits in SPIDER, END OF DAYS, THE KEEP, STIGMATA and GOTHIC. Not sure what roles these pros play in director Eric (MALEFIQUE) Valette’s redux, but most likely they’ll be supporting turns. Lensing on ONE MISSED CALL began quietly in Atlanta this week

Qué bien, ya he visto la película.

Al fin y al cabo ya la habías visto antes que el trailer, a juzgar por lo que éste muestra, es decir, que mucho no diferirá del original. Ojala al menos sirva para que alguno recupere la de Miike y se evite este remake a priori prescindible.

Andrew Klavan tiene cierta fama como novelista, hasta hizo un cómic de Batman que también transformó en novela. Si el remake se aparta del original que me aburrió un montón, hasta puese ser interesante...
