Una de las extras que aparece en el clip de la discordia con Coppola, Rayna Menz (y a la que este besa cariñosamente en las mejillas y susurra algo en el oído) ha usado su cuenta de Instagram para decirle a Variety, a quién filtró el vídeo y a las coordinadoras de intimidad que no tienen vergüenza ninguna, que las acusaciones son completamente falsas, y que Coppola es un ejemplo de profesionalidad, cariño, empatía y atención en un rodaje del que otros muchos directores deberían tomar nota.

Posteriormente ha contactado con Deadline para hacer una declaración pública oficial, con su nombre y apellidos. Olé sus ovarios. Ha tenido mucho valor la muchacha.

Y si, hubo besitos. BESITOS Y ABRAZOS Y PALABRAS DE APOYO que se agradecen MUCHO después de jornadas maratonianas de trabajo.

Se llama tener empatía, humanidad y ser afable y cariñoso, como es Coppola.


Es más, Coppola y ella BAILARON JUNTOS, porque ELLA SE LO PIDIO.

He did nothing to make me or for that matter anyone on set feel uncomfortable,” Menz told Deadline. “I felt disgusted, I was blindsided by it because it was a closed set. That someone had video of that is just ridiculous and super unprofessional. It’s gross because he only ever spoke about how wonderful his wife is. His wife was on set with us, most days. It feels gross, seeing that video and they way they were trying to convey a message. Just gross.”

The insinuation, which the trade said corroborated a charge published during Cannes in a UK publication, was just not true, she said.

“It was all false,” Menz said. “In fact, I was the one who asked him to dance. I asked him to dance, in front of everybody else. That’s why it’s so funny that this story came out. He even said, something along the lines of — mind you it was over a year ago so this is not a proper quote — but he said something like, ‘I’m a gentleman, and I would never say no to a lady.’ And then we waltzed, to club music.

He was nothing but professional, a gentleman, he was like this cute Italian grandfather, running around the set,” she said. “It was just so much fun. He’s a nice generous person.”

Pero no se ha quedado ahí, la muchacha. Luego hizo otro post, más conciso, donde insinuaba que además de ser un miserable como persona, quién filtró el vídeo rompió las normas del rodaje, porque no se permitían móviles ni cámaras externas.

Yo quisiera remarcar una vez más el coraje de esta muchacha. Esta mujer los ha tenido bien puestos. No tenía ninguna necesidad de salir públicamente, identificarse (máxime cuando ahora puede sufrir represalias), y hacer lo que ha hecho. Y sin embargo, ha tenido el valor de hacerlo.


Por lo demás, completamente de acuerdo contigo.

Esa extra debería tener mucho cuidadito con lo que dice... ¿Está insinuando que las coordinadoras de intimidad son activistas sindicalizadas, y no seres de luz cuya misión vital era velar por esa desagradecida y alienada extra? ¿Y así se lo agradece esta machista? ¿Acaso esa lagarta no se acuerda de la pobre Maria Schneider?

Alguien tendría que explicarle a esa doñanadie quienes son los buenos y quienes son los malos...

Joder, mi mujer me acaba de comentar algo en lo que no había caído, pero que convierte a todo lo sucedido en algo más ruin todavía si cabe. Cito tal cual.


Le acusan de comportamiento inadecuado de carácter sexual con el cadáver de su esposa aún caliente. Maldita hija de la grandísima puta. Lleva a los tribunales a esa zorra, Francis (Tatiana es como se llama la asistente que al parecer filmó y posteriormente filtró el video a la prensa).


Pido disculpas por el lenguaje soez y vulgar de mi esposa. A menudo es muy bruta, pero es una bellísima persona.

Pese a no creer las acusaciones, lo cierto es que en el fondo ha estado muy afectada estos días ante la posibilidad, por ínfima que fuese, de que Coppola, de quién es muy fan, realmente hubiese hecho algo malo. Porque una vez que plantas la semilla, la duda te carcome.

Por desgracia no ha acabado aquí la cosa :(.

Variety, quién reporto el supuesto comportamiento inadecuado de Coppola y publicó los vídeos en primer lugar, ha publicado otro artículo en respuesta al de Deadline.

Al parecer, ahora son ellos mismos los que han contactado con otra extra presente en el mismo vídeo, Lauren Pagone. Esta mujer si que acusa directamente a Coppola de besarla y abrazarla sin su consentimiento, afirma que se sintió terriblemente incómoda y recrimina a la otra extra que estaba con ella aquel dia, Rayna Menz, que hablase por todos los que estaban allí aquel día respecto a como se sintieron y como percibieron la manera de actuar de Coppola.

También ha afirmado que el problema de base es que se trata de una producción autofinanciada, y por lo tanto su director puede actuar con impunidad en el set de rodaje. Si se hubiese tratado de un proyecto de un gran estudio, o de streaming, a día de hoy existen salvaguardas y sistemas de reporte internos para asegurar que o bien ese comportamiento no tenga lugar, o bien las consecuencias para quienes se comportan así sean rápidas y expeditivas.


One of the women in the video, Lauren Pagone, who appeared in multiple scenes in “Megalopolis” as an extra, says she was dancing in the middle of a live take of a nightclub sequence when Coppola approached her and pulled her toward him. He then hugged and kissed her.



“I was in shock. I didn’t expect him to kiss and hug me like that. I was caught off guard. And I can tell you he came around a couple times.”


Pagone decided to come forward when another woman, Rayna Menz, told Deadline that she was one of the actresses seen in one of the two videos published by Variety. Menz told the trade publication that Coppola “did nothing to make me or for that matter anyone on set feel uncomfortable.”

Menz did not respond to an email from Variety requesting additional comment. Pagone was upset that Menz would speak for the entire cast and crew of the film.

“I don’t appreciate anybody speaking for me. I would never speak for that actress,” Pagone adds. “I’ve kept my mouth shut. I’ve kept quiet. But it’s frustrating that she’s putting out there, ‘Hey, it was great for everyone’ when she doesn’t know what other people were feeling. You can’t speak for anyone but yourself. My experience was different.”




“Megalopolis” intimacy coordinator Samantha McDonald previously told Variety that neither she nor Ashley Anderson, the film’s other intimacy coordinator, were on set for the nightclub scene, which was filmed on Feb. 14, 2023, at Atlanta’s Tabernacle concert hall. “I can’t really speak to the reason why they chose to bring us in when they did and not when they didn’t,” McDonald said.





In recent days, another member of the cast approached Variety to say that they had witnessed Coppola kissing “multiple women” during a different scene involving a New Year’s Eve celebration. Shortly before filming started, Coppola told the extras that he wanted them to act as they would at a typical holiday party and kiss each other at the end of the countdown, the cast member said. He added that he might jump in and kiss a few people himself.

After calling cut, Coppola got up, stopped multiple women as they passed him and kissed them on the cheek. “The women that I saw being kissed did not see him coming. He just basically grabbed them and planted the kiss on them without any kind of consent,” the person added. “They all kind of laughed it off for a moment and then I could tell that they were just surprised.”


The cast member who has worked on a number of high-profile productions in and around Atlanta says, “My entire experience being on that set was super weird and uncomfortable. It was probably the worst experience for me on a set ever.”

Because Coppola financed the entire $120 million budget himself, there was no place to complain about unorthodox behavior. Movies that are produced by streamers and major studios have more formalized human resources departments where actors and crew members can raise issues and concerns.


Pagone confirmed to Variety that the video she appears in was during a live shot and was not taken during a break.


En fin, veremos en que queda todo esto. De momento se supone que la película iba a proyectarse en el Festival de Cine de Toronto, pero a día de hoy todavía no tenemos confirmación oficial en su página web. Esperemos que no la hayan cancelado debido a toda esta controversia.
