Arkham City/Origins Map Comparison
See how Old Gotham has changed to become Arkham City.
We took the two map sections from the latest GameInformer and pieced them back together. Then we placed an overlay of the Arkham City map on top. As you can see there are a few things of note.
1- Wonder Tower:
At first we thought that Wonder Tower was missing, but there is actually a structure that could be Wonder Tower on the new map. It appears that there was a park built on top of Wonder City, which was later bulldozed to make way for Hugo Strange’s fortified base in Arkham City.
2- Subsidence and Flood Damage:
The maps don’t match well. Some buildings work pretty well and the general areas work well too, but the roads don’t match and there are a few places where there appears to have been some subsidence. Though this could be due to the seismic activity mentioned in Arkham City that led to Amusement Mile being flooded. Will we see another road below the elevated highway that Penguin’s thugs blew up in Arkham City?
3- Wayne Manor:
There is a solitary building on the mainland; Wayne Manor, surely?
4- X Marks the Spot:
8 Assassins. 8 Crosses. Seems simple right? Well, perhaps not so simple. If you look at the placement of the crosses, they could have been overlain by GameInformer as a way to draw attention to points of interest that they discuss in the article, such as Jezebel Plaza in the Bowery; the Penguin’s ship, the Final Offer; or the bridge between Old and New Gotham. We’ll have to wait to find out their true significance.
5- The Iceberg Lounge:
According to the bios and backstories in Arkham City, Penguin had been holed up in the old Natural History Museum for a while before Old Gotham was walled-off. His club, the Iceberg Lounge, was seated in the rear of the museum; what will be there during Origins?
6- Empty Land:
An empty map section on an island metropolis? Peculiar, to say the least. What could this be? Woodland? Barren rock?
7- An Airfield?
As with the above, this area of the map seems odd for a metropolis. With the lack of surrounding buildings and a long stretch that could be a runway, I’m guessing that we could see an airfield. Whether it is Gotham’s major airport or not, I’m not convinced, but many cities have minor airfields as well as major ones. There’s also this concept art that clearly shows an aircraft in a hanger. The aircraft can also be seen here.
Another possibility is that it could be a power or chemical plant.
We will keep updating this post as we spot things or as you bring things to our attention.
