Activision Blizzard has announced that Guitar Hero will be returning this fall in the form of Guitar Hero Live.

Guitar Hero Live features two ways to play the game. There's the standard gameplay which everyone is already familiar with but there's also an all-new first person mode in which you are the person playing the instrument and looking out into the audience. The audience will then react to how well or how poorly you play. The game will also feature numerous venues and music spanning a wide range of genres.

More than 40 million people have played an entry in the Guitar Hero franchise and at the time of release it set a record for the fastest franchise to hit $1 billion in sales revenue in North America and Europe.

"Guitar Hero is a franchise that so many people love. Figuring out how to bring it back with true breakthrough innovation has been years in the making, and a labor of love," said Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg. "Guitar Hero Live lets people rock real crowds with real reactions. Our goal was literally to give people stage fright. And with GHTV, we have created the world's first playable music video network. All of it is playable on consoles, or mobile devices. Guitar Hero is back and better than ever."

One of the biggest changes in the game is the newly designed controller, which features two rows of three buttons, compared to one row of five buttons on the old controller.

Guitar Hero Live is being developed by FreeStyleGames, which is the same company that produced DJ Hero and DJ Hero 2. It will release on the PS3, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Wii U, and 'select mobile devices' this Autumn.
