La Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) ha reemplazado este año a los AFI Awards, los premios cinematográficos más importantes en Australia desde 1958. Con su nuevo nombre, estos premios cuentan con un apartado internacional para elegir a los mejores títulos y a los mejores actores de cada temporada.

En su primer año, "The artist" arrasa y gana los premios de mejor película, director y actor, y Meryl Streep vence en la categoría de actriz.
