No recuerdo un año con una terna tan espectacular. Cualquiera de las 3 se lo merece, y algo me dice que este año vamos a llegar al menos a las nominaciones finales.

A falta de ver Romería, las otras dos películas elegidas a mi me encantaron

Sirat, es la elegida para los oscars

Diría que estaba cantado, si no fuera porque otras veces también estaba cantado y la Academia ha preferido pegarse un tiro en el pie y no elegir la propuesta con más opciones objetivas.

Sea como fuere, y con independencia del recorrido que tenga, hemos de felicitarnos de tener este año una propuesta con tantísima personalidad y potencia. Y felicidades también a las otras dos propuestas, que han sido una competencia muy digna.

Independientemente de méritos, y de las fechas de votación de los diferentes premios, creo que al director Jafar Panahi le va a venir bien su reciente condena en Irán en esta temporada de premios. El manido no hay mal que por bien no venga. Y es que es inevitable sentir empatía por él.

Me alegro por Benicio del Toro, que me gustó más que Sean Penn (a pesar de que se habla más de este último). También me alegro por Amy Madigan que ha creado un personaje para el recuerdo, del estilo de Nicolas Cage en Longlegs, pero que seguramente correrá la misma suerte en las nominaciones a los Oscars, ya que la Academia no suele valorar actuaciones de películas de terror.

Y con muchas ganas de ver la película brasileña, que está haciendo el mismo ruido, si no más, que la de Walter Salles el año pasado. Brasil está de moda. Y cada vez tengo más claro que Sirat no va a llegar a la meta, se le han cruzado varios pesos pesados este año.

Hoy es un día importante de cara a la temporada de premios. Hoy se han dado a conocer también los galardones anuales (y los ya clásicos Top del año) de la National Board of Review, la más veterana de las asociaciones críticas americanas. Son los siguientes:

Me sorprende mucho el ninguneo a Hamnet de los premios de la NBR

Yo lo que no entiendo muy bien es el Top 10, en el que no están la mayoría de películas premiadas, pero sí figuran algunas como Sinners y Train dreams.

Los premios de las categorías importantes están en el top 10. Una interpretación puede ser cojonuda pero no hace a una película digna de estar entre lo mejor del año. Hay películas geniales con interpretaciones normalitas y viceversa, pero si cuentas con un buen guión y una buena dirección garantizas una buena película.

Sí, claro, si yo no he dicho lo contrario. Pero me extraña que por ejemplo One Battle After Another haya ganado los premios más importantes y no figure en ese Top 10. Debe haber alguna regla que se me escapa, del tipo del festival de Cannes, donde se intenta que las películas en las que recae un premio importante no reciban otros.

Ah, es que la ganadora creo que por el hecho de ser ganadora nunca está en el top.

Eso es lo primero que pensé yo, pero por eso me extrañaba que Sinners y Train dreams sí estén.

Sorprende el ninguneo a Hamnet, que por cierto ha tenido un flojísimo estreno en taquilla en USA.

Esto acaba de empezar y queda muchísimo, pero creo que PTA y "Una batalla tras otra" lo tienen hecho de cara a los Oscars. Va a ocurrir lo mismo que con Oppenheimer hace 2 años, que con mucha antelación ya estaba claro.

Sí veo muchas variables en actores y actrices y estará entretenido.

Algún año que otro, la mejor película ha estado incluida en el top-10 y otros años ha estado aparte (es como si hubiera 11 mejores películas del año). Desconozco si hay regla. De haberla, no es estricta por lo que digo.

Respecto a las favoritas, los premios de la NBR son muy chulos, por las pelis que elijen, pero no son concluyentes para los Oscar. Desde Slumdog millionaire, en el 2008, solo una más, Green book, en 2018, ha coincidido mejor película en NBR y premios de la Academia.

Desde luego que Una batalla tras otra va a estar en todas las quinielas. Que gane mejor película? Todavía hay dudas.
Sí creo que debería ser el año de PTA a mejor director. Veremos.
Curiosidad también por ver que le deparará a Sinners, que fue de las primeras que sonaron este año.

Es evidente que estos primeros premios de la crítica sugieren que a Paul Thomas Anderson “le ha llegado el año”, en un caso similar al de Nolan con Oppenheimer… pero bueno; esto es sólo el principio. Una cosa es lo que digan los críticos y otra los sindicatos y premios de industria. Veremos qué eligen los Critics Choice mañana y los Golden Globes el lunes.

En unas pocas horas se conocerá hoy también el Top Ten de la AFI, que normalmente suelen afinar más que la NBR con las favoritas del año….
