Hi, I had the change to see briefly the 8720 in Greece and while I am on the side line to get the smaller 7700 by Benq I have to admit that the 8720 is in a different league… from any perspective Size, Functionality, Lens, Quality…

It’s a step up for BenQ to join the club of Marantz, Sharp, Yamaha etc…the projector comes with electric lenses shift, Iris, Zoom etc. The lenses it self it’s a step up from what I have seen from BenQ in the past. Out of the box and without any proper calibration (just brightness –contrast with DVE ) the pj had no problem to give a veryyy impressive picture…. We use the Denon 3910 from DVI and component Both connection provide images above expectation, vibrant colors, contrast was nice (can tell if it’s close to the specs) but clarity of the picture is what make this pj to stick out from what I have seen.

Internal scaler also it seems to perform above previous attempts from BenQ… watch for some time various movie clips, no indication of rainbow and the big surprise was how relaxed the view was, the picture had the balance to force you watch the movie instead of looking for any issues with the settings/setup of the projector. The 8720 can throw easily 120-140 inches without a problem, due the long throw lenses it will require some distance in installation (this maybe an issue with the us Europeans that have smaller rooms…)

Overall I can say it’s very nice try from BenQ to hit the high end of the market… but then again time will show… Catalog Price at 5690 Euros (6.950 USD) (keep in mind no big discounts over here…)
