It's been a while since my last post here but I figured I could share some observations of the TW2000 as it's already being sold here in Portugal for about 2~3 weeks now. The Epson distributor here pointed me to a reseller that had some tw2000s in stock, so this afternoon I went to see it. MSRP is at 3500€.

FWIW I own a NEC 9PG Xtra CRT and a 720p Hitachi digital (for TV watching); I'm also familiar with the VW50, other 720p digitals and the SIM 3xDLP units. I'm basing my comparisons on these, as I've never seen other D7 projectors.

The unit looks like the previous tw1000 and it's black, glossy finish on this one. Since I didn't have a tw1000 next to it I can't say they look the same though.

Observations were done using BD, fed by a PS3 1920x1080p@24. screen was 7 feet wide, 1.0 gain. The lamp was at 24 hours.

Since this reseller is more dedicated to HiEnd audio the unit was not fully calibrated, it just had basic calibration done (ie, as a home user can do using DVE or Avia). Since time was short on both parts I did not worry too much about it, just to say that some of what I've found may/may not be improved upon with extensive calibration, and that I did not watch any test patterns on it.

Overall: the image had a lot of punch, with good perceived inner scene contrast (3xDLP look a bit better, VW50 way worse). Colors were very saturated but appeared "correct", with natural looking fleshtones and it was easy to spot varying color shofts in objects and faces. This extra punch may have obscured the finest of detail.

Iris: I watched about an hour of film material. I almost never noticed the Iris and I'm sensitive to it (noticed on the Sony VPL-HS60 A LOT and a bit on the VW50). The ONLY time I noticed it was when after a very dark screen the FBI logo came up, and it was a very slight effect

Blacks: Excellent, even compared to my CRT. NOT perfect, excellent! Even in dark hazy scenes it seems to be as black as a CRT, BUT not absolutely there: Altough blacks were smooth they didn't have the absolute 3 dimensionality of CRT, they were not "silky smooth". This was noticed on dark cloth's textures and wrinkles, there was this very slight lost detail. So, it's the equal of an air coupled CRT (liquid coupled units have better CRT blacks )All other digitals I've seen pale in comparison (never seen other D7s or this years' LCOS\SxRD though)

brightness: bright, but not too bright on this size screen.

SDE: noticeable when very close to the screen, certainly more than the VW50 but invisible in any scene at more than 1/2 foot.

MP: The unit I saw was good in this respect, only the blue panel was shifted to the left maybe by 0.7 pixels. Since we're not as sensible to blue, it was unnoticeable. Green and red panels aligned perfectly across the entire screen.

Brightness uniformity: Didn't notice anything, dark corners seemed as dark as the rest of the image.

Noise: heard none, ceiling mount

In the end: I'd be happy to live with this one, it's an excellent machine. I'm sorry I haven't seen other D7s nor the VW60 (yet) for comparison. It's enough for all but the most die hard CRT fans, it's NO contest for a VW50 or VW100 (remember, I haven't seen this year's crop of LCOS/SxRD) and is competitive with 3xDLP if you don't want enormous screen sizes since it DOES have a punchy image. FWIW, the retailer told me the D7 Panny has a very similar HD image, and the VW60 was "way worse" in his oppinion (he stocks/sells the 3, but only the Epson was currently in stock)

Debido a que el distribuidor cuenta con la más dedicada a HiEnd audio de la unidad no fue plenamente calibrados, que sólo ha realizado la calibración de base (es decir, como una casa usuario puede hacer uso de DVE o Avia). Como el tiempo es corto en las dos partes que no te preocupes demasiado por ello, acaba de decir que algunos de lo que he encontrado puede / no puede ser mejorada con amplia calibración, y que no he reloj patrones de prueba alguna al respecto.

En general: la imagen había una gran cantidad de ponche, con buena percepción interior escena de contraste (3xDLP mirar un poco mejor, VW50 manera peor). Los colores son muy saturados, pero pareció "correcta", con aspecto natural fleshtones y es fácil de detectar diferentes colores shofts en objetos y rostros. Esto puede tener más pegada oscurecido el mejor de los detalles.

Iris: Miré alrededor de una hora de material de película. Casi nunca he notado el Iris y soy sensible a ella (sobre la cuenta de Sony VPL - HS60 A LOT y un poco sobre el VW50). La SÓLO tiempo me di cuenta de que era cuando después de una muy oscura pantalla el FBI logotipo surgió, y se trata de un efecto muy leve

Negros: Excelente, incluso en comparación con mi CRT. NO perfecto, excelente! Incluso en las escenas oscuras nebuloso parece ser tan negro como un CRT, pero no existe absolutamente: Aunque los negros son lisas que no tienen la absoluta 3 dimensiones de la CRT, no se "sedoso suave". Esto fue observado en las texturas de la tela oscura y las arrugas, es muy ligera pérdida de este detalle. Por lo tanto, es la igualdad de un aire junto CRT (líquido junto unidades disponen de los mejores CRT negros) Todas las otras digitales que he visto en comparación (nunca visto otros D7s o este años de LCOS \ SxRD aunque)

Brillo: brillantes, pero no demasiado brillante para este tamaño de pantalla.

SDE: notable cuando muy cerca de la pantalla, sin duda más que el VW50 pero invisible, en cualquier escenario en más de 1 / 2 pie.

MP: La unidad que vi fue buena en este sentido, sólo el grupo azul se desplazó a la izquierda quizá en 0,7 píxeles. Dado que no somos como sensato azul, era imperceptible. Verde y rojo paneles perfectamente alineados en toda la pantalla.

Brillo uniformidad: No ve nada, parece como oscuros rincones oscuros que el resto de la imagen.

Ruido: escuchado ninguno, de montaje en cielo

En el final: me encantaría vivir con esta, es una excelente máquina. Lo siento, no he visto otras D7s ni el VW60 (aún) para la comparación. Es suficiente para todos, pero los más acérrimos aficionados CRT, es NO concurso para un VW50 o VW100 (recuerde, no he visto este año de la cosecha de LCOS / SxRD) y es competitivo con 3xDLP si no desea enormes tamaños de pantalla ¿Ya que tienen una imagen punchy. FWIW, el minorista me dijo el D7 Panny tiene una imagen muy similar HD, y el VW60 fue "peor manera", en su opinión, que (él existencias / vende el 3, pero sólo la Epson actualmente en stock)
