It's interesting that we, as fanboys, sometimes find ourselves wholly interested by sequels to crappy films based on comics we love. Like why even talk about a DAREDEVIL sequel or a HULK sequel? Neither was really good. What more could a sequel possibly bring? Even with the DAREDEVIL spinoff ELEKTRA, we hoped that a new creative team could breathe some life into that character. Wrong. The prime example of this is THE PUNISHER 2. Let's get this straight - PUNISHER was probably one of the worst comic adaptations of the modern, post-X-MEN era. Yet Thomas Jane starts talking sequel and instead of poo-pooing the idea, I'm hearing a lot of optimistic fans saying things like, "Well if they get this one right..." Obviously Frank "The Punisher" Castle could make a great movie if they could do it right. But what makes anyone think that if they didn't get it right the first time around when they really should've, they will now? Let's just call a spade, a spade and agree this is one film that really doesn't need to be made. Thomas Jane, or Tom Jane as he likes to be called now, has shown he can be a great actor so he should move on. In case you don't know what I'm rambling about, Jane recently told a comic convention that PUNISHER 2 was a go and just filmed a teaser trailer for the sequel to help sell the film. If you need reason to doubt this film, Jane also said that, while the script isn't finished, he's doing everything he can to get the film moved to New York. Why should anyone have to fight this hard to get the film moved to New York?! Shouldn't this be an effin' no-brainer? Stay tuned for more on this project as it develops...
