Tema: Tideland

We have an update regarding ThinkFilm's upcoming release of director Terry Gilliam's Tideland. Due on February 27th, 2007, the disc will feature a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. Bonus materials include an introduction from Terry Gilliam, an audio commentary with Gilliam, "Getting Gilliam" short film by Vincenzo Natali (with commentary by Gilliam & Natali), "The Making of Tideland" featurette, an interview with Terry Gilliam and trailers. Retail is $27.98.

Como que Short film, no había rodado Natali un making of en condiciones??

Si no me equivoco el doc de Natali dura 40 y pico minutos, no más.

Por cierto que también se ha anunciado la edición inglesa, y tiene contenidos diferentes, por ejemplo, si en USA el audiocomentario es (a priori sólo) de TG, en el de UK es de Gilliam y Grisoni. Parece que ya no va a ser tan difícil decantarse por una u otra edición de Tideland, porque la edición Z1 está recortada, en vez de 2:35 van y la sacan a 1:85. Menos mal que no hice preorder de DeepDiscount a pesar de estar muy barata.

Major studio releases could learn a thing or two from Tideland – Collector’s Edition, at least in the bonus material department. The 2-disc set packs in a lot of a interesting content, including:

Disc one:

* An introduction from Terry Gilliam: straight up, Gilliam warns viewers that they may well dislike his film, while others may love it. He explains a bit about his intent, and finishes with a hope that – at the very least – it will make viewers think.

* Audio commentary: by director Gilliam and writer Tony Grisoni. The pair offers up some good insight on the production, and pokes fun at the film’s critics (myself included, I suppose). It’s interesting, but probably unsatisfying for those who didn’t like the film.

* Theatrical Trailer: the trailer for Tideland.

* Trailer gallery: see what else ThinkFilm is up to these days.

Disc two:

* Getting Gilliam - A Film by Vincenzo Natali: an excellent making-of documentary, following Gilliam at work on Tideland. Well worth watching, perhaps even more so than the film itself. Don’t bother with the optional commentary.

* Making of Tideland: your usual puff piece, this featurette pales in comparison to the previous documentary.

* Deleted scenes: with commentary by Gilliam. These are rare examples of deleted scenes that actually would have added to the film, but Gilliam explains they were mostly cut for time.

* Filming Green Screen: with optional commentary by Gilliam. A behind-the-scenes look at some of the effects sequences in the film.

* Interview with Terry Gilliam: learn about the challenge of finding a child actor who could pull off this film, and other interesting stuff.

Final Thoughts

Tideland is not for everyone, and it wasn’t for me. This DVD, on the other hand, makes me wish I enjoyed the film. Kudos to ThinkFilm for putting together a top-notch release.

La edición UK también tiene 2 discos, el problema es el de casi siempre, que no tiene ningún subtítulo, ni siquiera en inglés.
La edición HK/Z3, además de la falta del 2º DVD, tiene otro problema, y es que no tiene audiocomentario (al menos ni en CdWow ni en YesAsia venía especificado).

A ver si en Z1 hacen lo mismo que con Lord of War y hacen una segunda tirada como es debido, respetando su formato original.

Con respecto a infrazona, tengo esperanzas de que una distribuidora como Cameo pueda sacarla en condiciones, es un film que no tendrá un mercado muy amplio, y las ventas no creo que vayan a ser tan espectaculares como para interesar a otras distribuidoras.

Por cierto, es posible (lo anunciaban en la página de Sony de Brasil) que para fin de año caiga una edición coleccionista del Barón Munchausen, esperemos que con comentario y extras de la antigua edición en LaserDisc .

Ya ha salido aquí en alquiler, respeta el formato original 2.35:1 y es anamórfica, trae un audiocomentario de Gilliam con no sé quién que viene subtitulado. Edita amazing pictures que creo que son nuevos y distribuye warner.

Zonadvd anuncia la salida para el 11 de marzo.
La edición posee los mismos contenidos que z1.

Y parece un digipack, ¿no? Por lo menos de Wolf Creek lo sacan, y editan los mismos.

A los que os hayáis comprado el digipak y probado los discos, ¿os ha dado problemas el disco de extras?

Cada vez que lo cargo en los dos reproductores que tengo mete demasiado ruido como para que sea algo normal. También se oye en el menú principal, pero no cuando estás viendo el documental, escenas eliminadas o las entrevistas.
Da que pensar acerca del estado del disco, y tampoco creo que sea bueno para el reproductor.

Voy a cambiar el dvd, pero me gustaría saber si le ha pasado a alguien más.
