TIFF, Telluride, NYFF y LAFF 2018

Abro hilo (emulando años anteriores), para hablar de estos festivales de cine que se celebran entre septiembre y octubre. Esta semana se anunciará una primera tanda de películas para Toronto, pero el festival de Nueva York ha dado ya a conocer dos de los films que se presentarán en esta edición. A la Premiere americana de Roma, de Alfonso Cuaron (cuyo estreno mundial será, muy probablemente, en Venecia), se suma hoy The Favourite, el último film de Yorgos Lanthimos, que abrirá el festival el próximo 28 de septiembre:

Hay que hacer notar que el film es también estreno en Norteamerica, por lo que quizás también se pueda ver en Venecia o Toronto.

Gracias, Doctor por abrir el hilo. Esto ya huele a premios y eso que queda muchísimo todavía. El tiempo pasa muy rápido. :) Además, que viendo lo que está por estrenarse, parece que este año que se presenta aún será mejor si cabe que el que hemos acabado.

Dr. Morbius, yo también te agradezco la apertura de este hilo. Como Tomaszapa indica, la temporada empieza a calentar motores y entre estos festivales (sobre todo Toronto donde la exhibición de títulos es ingente) y Venecia seguro que vamos a poder ya ir haciendo quinielas.

Es cierto lo que comenta Tripley de Toronto. He estado mirando estos festivales en sus ediciones del año pasado, y si bien es cierto que hay películas que se proyectan en dos o incluso los tres, el de Toronto se lleva la palma.
El año pasado se proyectaron bastantes de las que coparon nominaciones en los Oscar de este año.
La forma del agua, Tres anuncios en las afueras, Call me by your name, Lady Bird, El instante más oscuro, Mudbound, Una mujer fantástica, Florida project, I Tonya, Molly´s game, the square, loveless, En cuerpoy alma, El insulto, ....y otras muchas muy buenas películas.

Ya se sabía que If Beale street could talk, lo nuevo de Barry Jenkins (responsable de la oscarizada Moonlight), se estrenará en Toronto. Pero también lo hará en NY, y aquí la noticia, no en el recinto del Lincoln Center, como es lo habitual.
Por primera vez, se estrenará un film del festival en el legendario The Apollo, un teatro situado en Harlem.
Precisamente, donde transcurre esta historia de amor entre los protagonistas y de donde proviene el autor de la novela que da pie al film de Jenkins. El 9 de octubre tendrá lugar. El 30 de noviembre se estrenará en todo el país.

Por distribuidoras (respecto a Telluride), veo que Fox Searhclight ha conseguido meter en Telluride las 3 películas del otoño en este festival.

Focus Features manda Boy Erased confirmándose que será su apuesta fuerte para la temporada de premios.

Sony Pictures Classics consigue meter la película de Ralph Fiennes, que me parece casi nadie la esperábamos en la temporada de premios.

Sony como estudio madre en si mete White Boy Rick y The front runner.

Universal ha metido The first man.

Me parece que tanto Magnolia Pictures como Netflix han metido algunas.

Ayer comenzó el Festival de Telluride, donde se pudieron ver varias de las pelis de la temporada de premios. Alguna ya estrenada en Cannes o Venecia (Shoplifters, First Man o Roma), y otras que son estrenos como el uiltimo film protagonizado por Robert Redford, Destroyer, The Front Runner, Trial by Fire o Free Solo.
