Heads up @thedigitalbits readers & #physicalmedia fans: I’ve just confirmed that @ParamountMovies’ new #UltraHD of Alfred Hitchcock’s TO CATCH A THIEF (1955)—due on 10/15—is sourced from the same #4K scan as the 2020 Paramount Presents BD release, but is in fact an all-new, painstaking digital restoration that offers corrected aspect ratio, massive corrections throughout the HDR grade, and that is “worlds apart” from the #Bluray. You can preview it now on Apple & Kscape.

I took a quick look at a few scenes on my Apple TV copy, and it does indeed appear to be a better transfer. There's some grain in the image and it generally looked more detailed, plus the green tinting in the night scenes is back.

Okay well I am seeing more grain on the 4K stream, it's in 1.85:1 now and those night scenes that had the incorrect blue filters (like the one of Grace Kelly laying on the couch and the night scene at the beginning with the cat) are green once again. Same with the day for night scene where Cary Grant is on the roof. Green AF now.

Some shots still do look a little smooth tbh but I remember the entire thing being smeared with DNR and that no longer seems to be the case. Mind you this is from just skimming through but it does look like certain issues have been corrected.

This shot on the 4K stream now looks wayyyyy more like the older master than the remastered disc. Like very very green.
