What makes Megalopolis so strange and, for a big-budget Hollywood film, so singular, is that, just like Vergil’s Aeneid, it is at once accretive, allusive, and idiosyncratic because Coppola is attempting something very few artists have ever done: to speak from inside the imperial organism, even as it begins to crack, and to craft a vision that is both a monument to its grandeur and a requiem for its decline.
Misterios...

Muthur, esta semana has dicho, ¿no?

As someone that attended one of the screenings of Megalopolis in Boston less than a month ago, the touring of the film across the U.S, no matter how weird it can seem as a strategy in 2025, is very much a real thing , and in fact is already happening. Coppola intention is absolutely to tour as many repertory theaters across the whole country as he possibly can until at least Christmas, he has made this very clear, in person, at the end of the screenings. The movie put him in debt. His attendance at these screenings both puts butts in seats for the movie, and is helping him chip away at that debt. He is doing everything he can to make the theatrical experience the only way to see Megalopolis for the near future.
The international Blu-ray’s exist because some distribution companies paid Coppola for international rights and home media was part of the deal.
Having said that, he loves physical media, and he is in talks with several boutique labels for a proper, collectors edition release of Megalopolis, perhaps by New Years Eve, or early 2026..
Veremos.

There is a plan, as unorthodox as it may all seem. I am sorry for the frustration and bewilderment.
As it is the middle of the night in the United States, I will need to keep this brief.
There is a life for Megalopolis beyond that fall 2024 release. FFC is taking the film on tour, Megadoc is coming, and further home releases will come in time.
As much as I wish I could wave a magic wand and say “hey, here’s your Criterion-esque Deluxe UHD with Dolby Atmos and every special feature imaginable, there are other stages to the life of this film prior to such ultimate release.
Veremos.

Mmmm:
A Dolby Atmos mix of the original audio does indeed exist, and it is very meticulous. The sound design of the movie was definitely created with Atmos in mind. My sources tell me that a HDR grading of the film also exists, was done by the cinematographer and the colorist, and supervised by Coppola. I suspect the current UHD editions are so barebones for a cost cutting reason, and perhaps there were licensing issues as well.
Que raro todo.

El río sigue sonando:
I was at the San Francisco event last Friday, and when asked about an eventual Blu-ray, Coppola said he's working in a even crazier cut of the movie that he'll release.
