Tema: Bandas sonoras

Hola, aprovechando que hablais de Morricone os quiero dejar esta pieza aquí, yo la verdad que soy un neófito de las bandas sonoras comparado con los compañeros de aquí y esta en concreto la descubrí hará cosa de una semana y me dejo maravillado, es preciosa toda la OST de esa peli(la cual aun no he visto pero estoy a punto de hacerlo). Y bueno lo que quería decir es que la primera vez que la escuche tuve la sensación de que ya la había oído, quizás en otra peli y a día de hoy sigo teniendo esa sensación como de familiaridad así que quería preguntar si alguno sabe de alguna otra peli donde se haya utilizado?

Pero... ¿esa contraportada con el tracklist de The Thing que habeis puesto es correcta? Yo siempre había oído decir a Carpenter lo contrario, que solo retocó alguna parte esporádica del score de Morricone:

Well, now, I didn’t officially compose or perform the music on The Thing, I did little interstitial work. By that I mean these little tonal things. Very few.
And apart from that, was it orchestration or was it synthesizers?
It was synthesizer, but there was a couple of tones in the very opening and here and there I just dropped in a couple things. Ennio had composed the music separate from the movie, and it was fabulous but I felt it just needed a little… there was a little work that needed to be done here and there. Very small.

tonk82, el cd en cuestión es una regrabación, que incluye alguno de los temas no escuchados en la edición original de la banda sonora (que incluía los temas compuestos por Morricone).
Como justamente dice el propio Carpenter, en la película pueden escucharse breves fragmentos compuestos por él, usados para marcar el tono que este quería para la banda sonora (a modo de temp tracks), ya que según creo, Morricone tenía pensada una partitura más instrumental.

Aunque aquí ya entro en la pura especulación, puede que en su momento se quitase cualquier mención en los créditos por motivos contractuales, ya que los temas de Carpenter son muy cortos (además de por respeto del director al gran compositor).
Recuerdo, por ejemplo, como en ediciones videográficas, se sustituyó un tema que se escucha en la radio (de Stevie Wonder) por música diegética, algo muy frecuente en la época para no pagar derechos de autor.

Lo que desconozco es si, al tratarse de una gran producción, Universal impuso a otro compositor de más renombre para encargarse de la partitura, ya que como comentan en varios documentales, Carpenter las pasó canutas en el rodaje y post-producción de la película.

difett: Yo hace un tiempo puse a la venta algunos cds de Intrada (Explorers, creo), y los puse en Merchandising porque no sabia donde meterlos. Pero ya te adelanto que no vendí ni uno Si alguien quiere el cd de Explorers que me diga algo (ya que estoy, aprovecho).

Cositas que deja caer La-la-land Records a corto plazo:


- Two Goldsmith´s for sure...possibly this year. Don't know yet if they will make it out in 2016.

- Some fantastic Williams planned, though...and a smattering of some other fantastic composers ranging from Mancina to Mancini!

- I am stating this right now -- Towering Inferno (El coloso en llamas) IS happening, but do not expect it for 2016.

- Rejected scores: One legendary one and possibly two "partial" ones (¿Frenesí de Mancini-Cortina rasgada de Herrmann?)

- Don't expect JFK (John Williams) any time soon. Its an odd score...very unconventional.

- INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 CD SET - FINAL 50 UNITS

Parece que la selección es idéntica a la previa edición de la caja de Varese Sarabande. Sobre el sonido, aunque no especifican nada, se supone que, al igual que en las demás reediciones del compositor en el sello Kritzerland, se habrá hecho una nueva masterización.

Por cierto, se rumorea que uno de los lanzamientos del sello Intrada para mayo podría ser la partitura íntegra de Collateral, de James Newton Howard, que apenas se escuchó en la película de Mann.

Tienes unas cosas... pásate por el hilo de bandas sonoras, a ver que opinas de lo último que hemos estado comentando, que cuando tengo un rato libre hablo sin parar de esto y aquello, ya lo sabes ( tú me animas diciéndome que te gusta)... y aprecio mucho tus reflexiones/opiniónes, cómo sabes.

Announcing HOLLYWOOD IN VIENNA: THE WORLD OF JAMES HORNER Blu-ray coming in June from Varèse Sarabande Records!



There is some fantastic news, today, as James Horner fans will be treated to a truly special release from VARESE SARABANDE RECORDS in conjunction with TOMEK PRODUCTIONS. Come the first anniversary, this June, of the composers tragic death, HOLLYWOOD IN VIENNA: THE WORLD OF JAMES HORNER will be released on blu-ray.

Not only will the magical tribute performance but released, but also an insightful symposium held with James Horner conducted by Robert Townson.

This should a fantastic release and one that, not just James Horner fans should add to their libraries, but any fan of film music.

Below are all of the details:


(April 29, 2016 – Los Angeles, CA) –

Varèse Sarabande, in partnership with Tomek Productions, will release a very special Blu-ray marking the first anniversary of the passing of Academy Award®-winning composer James Horner (TITANIC, APOLLO 13, BRAVEHEART). HOLLYWOOD IN VIENNA: THE WORLD OF JAMES HORNER was recorded in Vienna, Austria, as a part of a celebration of his life and music. At the annual film music gala, celebrating the world’s leading film composers and produced by Sandra Tomek, Horner was awarded by the City of Vienna with the “Max Steiner Film Music Achievement Award”.

“For days following James’ death, while fans of his music were utterly consumed by their grief and understandably inconsolable, I began hearing from many of them how much they were helped by seeing footage of the Vienna concert,” said Varèse Sarabande producer Robert Townson. “James called the experience ‘the most memorable moment in my life.’ We could see how his eyes were glistening and that the reality of what his music truly meant to people might actually be sinking in for the first time.”
“I am very glad that our concert celebration in Vienna was so special for James - and it’s lovely that we can share this special evening with many more thanks to this Blu-ray release by Varèse Sarabande,” said Tomek.

The ORF Vienna Radio-Symphony Orchestra, conducted by David Newman, paid tribute to Horner on October 3 and 4, 2013, with two concerts at the Vienna Konzerthaus. It was the first time in his career that Horner was an audience member at an orchestral concert of the beloved themes that he wrote. This setting reinvigorated Horner's love of concert music and opened the composer up to exploring this new frontier in the years before his passing.

The repertoire performed included music from STAR TREK: THE WRATH OF KHAN, AVATAR, TITANIC and THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN. Featured in a medley were Horner’s themes from WILLOW, A BEAUTIFUL MIND, APOLLO 13, ALIENS, THE MASK OF ZORRO and THE ROCKETEER. Singer Deborah Cox was joined by pianist and singer Jeremy Schonfeld on a beautiful performance of “Somewhere Out There” from AN AMERICAN TAIL. Geza Frank performed the Irish bagpipes on the always-riveting music from BRAVEHEART. No retrospective of Horner’s work would be complete without TITANIC – featuring vocals by soprano Ildikó Raimondi.

This special weekend also included a symposium with Horner. “I cherish the time and opportunity I had with him at Hollywood In Vienna in 2013,” remembered Townson, who conducted the 75-minute discussion, also featured on the Blu-ray release. “We discussed James’ memories of certain films and the creative process of composing. He teared up three times during our talk and he told me that the concert tribute to him there was the first time he had heard his film music in a concert hall. The whole trip to Vienna was a very emotional experience for James, who had a special tie to the city through his father because he had spent his youth there.”
“Our symposium was held at the ‘Max Reinhardt Seminar’ of the Vienna University of Music, where James’ father, Harry Horner, studied stage design. It was the first time James came back to these locations. Those days were just magical, for him and for all of us,” Tomek stated.

Varèse Sarabande will release the HOLLYWOOD IN VIENNA: THE WORLD OF JAMES HORNER Blu-ray through major platforms and retailers in June 2016.

¡¡¡¡ Me parece una gran noticia que editen en blu ray el concierto de horner para los que somos fans es una compra imprecindible a ver el precio y espero que sea region free.Por lo que respecta a los 5 titulos de varese cd club a ver quales son espero que sea algun goldsmith no estaria mal una redicion de leviathan o un expanded de air force one ojala editaran rocketeer pero estoy con bud white es mas para intrada o la la land varese suele editar expanded de titulos que editaron ace años o del catalogo de fox .

Gran elección la de Giacchino para Doctor Strange, pero hubiera preferido a Christopher Young (además, habiendo colaborado con el director en casi todas sus películas)
