Three different editions of Titanic will be released on DVD
Oct. 25, Paramount Home Entertainment and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment announced last week — but only one will be available for U.S. consumers.
A three-disc special collector’s edition of the world’s biggest movie ($1.8 billion worldwide) will be issued only in the United States, Japan and Korea, according to Thomas Lesinski, president of worldwide home entertainment for Paramount Pictures. The U.S. list price is $29.99.
Titanic fans in Europe, Australia and Latin America will get to choose between a two-disc special edition and a four-disc deluxe collector’s edition.
All three DVD editions feature a nine-minute alternate ending to the film, never seen before; a branching feature to 50 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage; and three new commentaries.
The three- and four-disc editions also contain more than 45 minute of deleted scenes; various production and special effects featurettes; and a making-of documentary.
The four-disc edition comes with three Titanic parodies, a selection of trailers and “The Heart of the Ocean,” an HBO First Look TV special about the movie.
The studios promise an ambitious marketing campaign that begins with the launch this month of a dedicated Web site,
www.titanicmovie.com.
