On 6 May 2006, it was revealed in the Daily Mirror that Robson was suffering from cancer for the third time and had recently had a tumour removed from his lung. On 5 August 2006, Robson was taken to hospital after complaining of feeling unwell ten minutes into the Championship match between Ipswich Town and Crystal Palace. Before the match Robson was paraded before fans at Portman Road to celebrate his appointment as honorary club president. Hospital sources declined to give details of his symptoms but later described his condition as "comfortable"Robson discharged from hospital.
It emerged on 20 August 2006, that the Ipswich incident was due to a brain tumour. Robson is due to have an operation on 23 August to remove the tumour, which may be malignant [1]. He told the Mail on Sunday in an interview: "On Wednesday I will have an operation to remove the tumour and as soon as surgeons tell me the rest of my body is clean I should be able to make a full recovery.". The BBC [2] reported on the 23rd that the operation went well, and he is recovering.
On the 31st of August, Sky Sports News reported that Robson had had an adverse reaction to the surgery which had caused slight swelling of the brain, which had in turn caused the loss of feeling in his left side. He is, despite this setback, believed to be recovering well.
