Bueno, creo que la mayoria de los seguidores del estudio Ghibli nos quedamos un poco más tranquilos despues de leer esto (ya solo nos falta que Mr. Goro demuestre que no se le ha encargado este proyecto por ser hijo de quien es...).

A mi tampoco me desagradan las pelis tipo Pixar, pero como bien comentas tu, creo que Ghibli perdería mucho de su encanto si, de repente, se nos descolgara con una peli tipo Final Fantasy o Appleseed...

yo creo que podemos confiar plenamente en el señor Goro Miyazaki ... por algo está actualmente a cargo del Ghibli Museum. ¿no?

Pues yo me estoy bajando uno por torrent de 170MB
De todos modos... hay una versión en Low Res en descarga directa y... :amor tiene una pintaza increíble.

También, según Ghibli World, ya se han puesto a la venta en Japón las entradas para el pre-estreno . Imágenes de los tickets ... quién pudiera... habrá que esperar otro añazo a que salga el DVD...

Por cierto, el título ya ha cambiado de Terramar a TALES OF EARTHSEA, asi que edito el título del post

Por lo que se desprende de esas entrevistas, Miyazaki es todo un personaje. No debe ser fácil tratar con los genios, la verdad.

Y eso de que no se habla con su hijo, y que no aprueba algunas cosas de la película pero que les deja a su aire. Espero que Goro resulte ser al menos un digno sucesor de su padre y que Terramar sea un buen film.

Y que Mr. Miyazaki comience en breve su próxima película, claro está!

Studio Ghibli has updated their website with great news! They have announced over here that Studio Ghibli background art director Kazuo Oga will be releasing his first film this summer, the 7th of July 2006 to be exact. For those who haven't heard of Kazuo Oga, Oga is famous for his background art direction and beautiful background art of movies like "Tonari no Totoro" (My Neighbor Totoro), "Heisei Tanuki Gassen Pon Poko" (PomPoko) and "Mononoke Hime" (Princess Mononoke).

Perdón, veo que una vez descargado el trailer que se posteo antes y ver este mal, es el mismo. Pero en la web de Gibli la notícia era de ayer y por eso me confundí.

ya pintaza tiene :amor no se porqué tiene una estética bastante oscura alejándose del periodo ghibli post-mononoke y acercándose más al estilo Nausicaa... lo mismo me equivoco, ¿eh? Pero vamos... se ve que los tíos, ahora que están forrados, hacen las pelis cagando hostias, ya que, por desgracia bajo mi punto de vista, han llenado el tecno-virginalt estudio ghibli de PCs que les "facilitan" el trabajo de dibujar todo que antes duraba 18 meses... pero perdiendo ese punto característico artesanal que tanto apreciábamos...

como última curiosidad, a pesar de que Hayao Miyazaki se opusiera a que si hijo Goro dirigiera el nuevo film del estudio, como ya es un abuelete simpaticón, está constantemente por el estudio dando consejos al equipo sobre cuadros de localizaciones europeas para que se inspiren en los escenarios y todo quede muy real.

¿Algún sitio para descargar el trailer en alta resolución (ese de 170 Megas), algún nombre, algo para encontrarlo?

Que el estudio Ghibli haga una peli de una de las mejores obras de fantasia de Occidente para mí es una de las noticias del año, por desgracia le falta el ingrediente principal: no la va a hacer Miyazaki (padre)....

Espero que Miyazaki (hijo) esté a la altura y salga algo decente...

Con el humor que parece que se gasta Miyazaki, ya puede el hijo hacer un buen trabajo, yo por lo menos lo intentaría xd.

Qué ganistas tengo de verla.

El trailer fue difundido en un programa de televisión, por eso se ven todos esos logos, la hora y hasta el parte meterorológico matinal.

Y está ya disponible la página web sobre la película:

Lástima que mis conocimientos de japonés no estén a la altura, , pero la página es bien bonita.

No sé qué parte exactamente están adaptando, pero con los trailers que he visto hasta ahora no acabo yo de situarme en la atmósfera Terramar. Aunque espero la película com impaciencia.

EL estudio ghibli tenia una grandisima cosa y es que cada director tenia su personalidad y su propia estetica.

Cuando eran de miyazaki tenian su estilo de dibujo, takahata era mas experimentador pero tambien tenia la suya, cosas como suspiros del corazon o haru en el reino de los gatos tenian una estetica muy buena, pero diferenciada de miyazaki y takahata tambien.

Lo que me preocupa, y mucho, es que todos los personajes que he visto en ese trailer son clavados a personajes de nausicaa, en todos los aspectos. No es criticar por criticar, pero si no eres hayao miyazaki no veo porque se tiene que copiar los diseños que suele hacer.

Esperare a ver si mis temores se confirman o no, pero este detalle me da muy mal rollo.

Pues sí, el estilo es idéntico al de hayao miyazaki, pero como me encanta, nada que objetar...
Supongo que siendo el hijo ha bebido desde niño de las fuentes de su padre y le costará algunas películas encontrar su propio estilo...

Aunque habiendo leído que Miyazaki padre no estaba de acuerdo en que su hijo hiciese la película me lo imagino mirando los borratajos de su hijo por encima del hombro, con el humo saliéndole por las orejas, y entonces le da una colleja, lo saca de la mesa de dibujo de un tirón de orejas, "anda quita, gañán, que no tienes ni idea, déjame que lo haga yo que te está quedando una chapuza, mira y aprende...".
Y por eso se parece tanto el trailer a las pelis de Miyazaki....

Shinichi Takahashi of Rapha, operator and a designer of the Studio Ghibli website, reported on the first preview and his very good impression about Gedo Senki (Tales from Earthsea).

He talks about his impressions on an internet radio station for about an hour:

According to Takahashi, on the day (June 28) of the first preview Hayao Miyazaki suddenly appeared and went into the preview room together with the camera crews. It had been reported that he would not attend the preview.

The preview was divided into three groups and Takahashi was waiting with the second group in the lobby. Miyazaki came out of preview early and smoked alone in the lobby. He smoked in silence while staring straight ahead.

Then the staff who were waiting for the second preview gathered around him and he began chatting and laughing. Takahashi's impression was that Miyazaki seems to have accepted Goro. According to Takahashi, the camera crews recorded this scene from far away.

Toshio Suzuki reports the party celebrating completion of Gedo Senki with 300 staff members took place in a hotel on July 1st. He will keep writing the diary until the end of July.

Suzuki says the party was very moving. According to him, Michiyo Yasuda, chief color designer at Ghibli (Miyazaki calls her
a "war buddy"), was late and came to the party with a message from Miyazaki to Goro.

Since Miyazaki left in the middle of the preview, the staff had fallen into a state of uneasiness.

It was very short message, "It was an honest way of making, and good."
When it was read out by Yasuda the hall quieted down for an instant. Then, one of the staff applauded. It became big applause and spread through the hall.

Goro says, "I was glad for father's words and near tears" in today's diary (not yet translated).

Menudo culebrón que se traen entre el padre y el hijo..........

Primera critica.What's this? A major Studio Ghibli animated release that's not helmed by Hayao Miyazaki or Isao Takahata, but by Miyazaki's 39-year-old son?

Goro Miyazaki--who's never before made a film of any kind, previously expressed ambivalence toward the medium, and graduated from university with a degree in forestry science--could hardly be called an animation careerist, let alone writer, director and sometime artist.

And Goro's pioneering parent has been very publicly opposed to his involvement in making animation.

Yet here we are with Gedo Senki (Tales from Earthsea).

With his debut feature, the son has followed on the coattails of the dad's recent inclination to look outside Japan for literary inspiration.

Back in 2004 Hayao tweaked Diana Wynne Jones' novel Howl's Moving Castle and Goro, in turn, has opted to adapt a book by prolific American fantasy scribe Ursula K. Le Guin.

His selection--The Farthest Shore, published in 1972 as the third installment in Le Guin's Earthsea series--was an ironic choice, given the fact that the writer refused Miyazaki senior's request to animate the chronicles 20 years ago.

Dad bounced back from the rebuff to produce one of his best movies, Kaze no Tani no Naushika (Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind), in 1984.

Just two years ago Le Guin also brandished a pitchfork at the American producers of a miniseries based on her Earthsea books.

In Le Guin's original tomes most of the major characters are not white, and her central character named Ged is of ambiguous ethnic complexion.

In the TV series he was a Harry Potter magic-molded white kid played by Shawn Ashmore (aka Iceman in the X-Men franchise). Danny Glover was the only nonwhite actor in the main cast, and Le Guin was hardly impressed.

She hasn't had a chance to cast her opinion on this animated version--yet Goro has also opted for white, Anglo-Saxon-looking character designs.

The story itself concerns Ged in his later years as a wandering wizard. There's also a schizophrenic boy named Arren (voiced by Junichi Okada, from the pop group V6), a scarred farm-girl called Therru (newcomer Aoi Teshima), the androgynous villain Cob (a sinister performance by Yuko Tanaka), and the typical tools of the Western fantasy genre such as a magical sword, latent powers, soul-searching, grappling with (inner) demons, and redemption.

It's from a Japanese perspective, of course, so at times it's a bit like The Sword In The Stone meets Zatoichi, which is only a good thing.

As played by Bunta Sugawara--who previously lent his vocal cords to the comic character of Kamaji in Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (Spirited Away), and is renowned for a rash of '70s yakuza yarns in which he starred alongside Shinichi "Sonny" Chiba--Ged comes across as the iconic father-figure; a powerful, all-wise sage who holds sway.

He's a composite of Gandalf, Merlin, Hayao Miyazaki's own Nausicaa character Yupa, and perhaps even Hayao himself.

And that is an issue here: the comparisons with dad and his very distinctive visual and philosophical panache.

Ged may resemble Yupa, but the evil henchman Hare is drawn as a spitting image of Count Cagliostro from Hayao's classic Lupin III movie Kariosutoro no Shiro (The Castle of Cagliostro), rendered a quarter century ago.

On an altruistic level Miyazaki senior, like Shakespeare, also understands that any good yarn needs its comic intervention, yet in his son's work the lack of humor hangs heavy.

And production-wise this flick took half the time of Sen to Chihiro to make--which does show. For anime, in general, this is superb stuff, but when the designs are weighed up against the forest or the cloud scenes in Tonari no Totoro (My Neighbor Totoro), for example, they just don't cut it.

Still, away from comparisons with anime's uncontested international contemporary success story, and examined in the softer hue of what it actually is--an outstanding debut, and a rousing animation romp in its own right--Gedo Senki augurs well in terms of setting sail toward Goro's very own signature style, Miyazaki moniker or not.


The movie, in Japanese, opens today.

En pocas palabras...

Que pese a beber excesivamente de las fuentes paternas, con un diseño de personajes quizás excesivamente cercano al clásico Nausicäa del Valle de los Vientos, el joven (no tanto, 39 años) Goro Miyazaki, pese a no contar con experiencia ninguna como director ni animador, ha realizado una gran pieza de anime de inspiración occidental que tan sólo se resiente cuando es comparada con la obra de su padre, el gran Hyao.

Un prometedor debut, etc...

Ahora tan sólo queda esperar su estreno por estos lares, es decir, en tierra de gaijin (literalmente "bárbaros").
