Estos le dan UNA ESTRELLA (de cinco), y dicen directamente que es una abominación, un completo espanto, una de las peores películas de los últimos años.

Pero quizá sería conveniente recordar que esta gente le dieron CINCO ESTRELLAS a Viuda Negra y a Capitana Marvel.

Además ellos siempre explican que las 5 estrellas son dentro de su género.

Por eso no leo a la crítica.

Pues medio me alegro de leer críticas negativas, porque con todo lo que llevábais hablado me habíais creado unas expectativas tan tan altas, que por buena que fuera la película me habría decepcionado, así que ahora ya estoy un poco más conectado a tierra y listo para degustarla.

Aunque la película sea un sindiós, con un guión cagarro, las imágenes que se ven en el tráiler son tan fascinantes, que aseguran al menos que el precio de la entrada es merecido, creo yo.

"Hot off the heels of one of the most talked-about premieres in recent Cannes memory, Francis Ford Coppola and his “Megalopolis” cast took part in the traditional press conference. It was one filled with “joy and relief.”

When asked about spending $120 million on such a risk-taking project, Coppola admitted having no regrets and that it was all worth it just to finally realize his long gestating dream project:

“I put the risk in the movie. I have no problems with the financials. My children, without exceptions, have wonderful careers without a fortune. They don't need a fortune.” He went on, “It’s how I felt the film should be, and I was paying for it…. There are so many people who, when they die, say ‘I wish I had done that.’ When I die, I'll say, ‘I got to do that.’”

Coppola added being not surprised that a studio has yet to pick up “Megalopolis” as the industry is a very different one today than it was a few decades ago. He called out the greed of studio execs and how they don’t make many good movies anymore:

“The studios are in great great debt and their job is not so much to make good movies as to pay their debt obligations”

We should also scratch off any plans of retirement for Coppola. According to him, at 85-years-old, he’s just getting started. Last month, I reported that he was working on a new film which will be an adaptation of Edith Wharton’s “The Glimpses of the Moon” and “inspired” by Leo McCarey’s “The Awful Truth.” He briefly tackled this topic at the presser:

“I can assure you; I plan to still be here in 20 years. I’ve already started writing a new film.”

Meanwhile, people here are still talking about “Megalopolis.” Wild theories and opinions keep circulating on the Croisette about the film. These conversations, discussions, dissections, will no doubt continue beyond Cannes as the film will, no doubt, eventually, get released in the U.S. Here’s hoping for a brave studio to pick this one up soon."

Francis Ford Coppola successfully achieves his lifelong dream project and delivers the most unhinged, unique film I seen in my life. I don’t really know where to begin or how to articulate this. I don’t think anyone can. This will divide the audience undoubtedly and scare distributors which is nothing new for Coppola films.

One thing I will say for sure is that I loved it and I don’t think any director alive is insane enough to pull this off and make a film like Megalopolis. This decade and era has reached a new ceiling of cinematic genius, imagination and beauty that is inconceivably executed. A certain technique is the most unique, one of a kind sequence I seen in my life of watching cinema history. I have no idea how Coppola will handle this when it releases worldwide. The closest thing I can begin to think of about this film’s world and style would be Fritz Lang’s Metropolis and Abel Gance’s Napoleon but with boundless creativity and even then that is not enough to describe what I just witnessed.

Coppola and the cast deserved the lengthy standing ovation and his emotional speech, which got him and myself teary eyed as he expresses the most beautiful, universal truth about humanity, family, hope, children and the future. We are all cousins under one large family tree after all. This was the greatest tribute Francis could ever do for his late wife Eleanor and I wish people see this and feel the love poured through every frame. In fact, I am confident many will come around to it over time and realise how far ahead Coppola was once again. Hopefully while he’s still alive. Megalopolis is the garden of eden and a cinematic deliverance of the highest level. Only God knows how Coppola’s soul could make this. This is cinema…

Completely unshackled by pure creative freedom and need to tell this story about hope, Francis Ford Coppola writes, produces and directs his most ballsy film yet. Out of this world and at times surrealist in its over-the-top satire. The whole cast is great and they fully commit to the bit, especially Adam Driver who continues to deliver solid damn performances. The pacing was a little tough, but visually it’s genuinely gorgeous, so you don’t really feel the weight of the lengthy runtime. There’s this clear element telling a theatrical story - incorporating many homages to all the greats. Coppola sort of re-introduces us to the art of film, but in a completely different fashion. Sure, not everyone will love it, but I think it’s at least important to keep an open mind.

Something pretty fucking insane happened at the end of the 2nd act and it’s crazy to think no other cinema in the world will be able to experience it. Coppola’s final words as the crowd applauded him, were beautiful and genuinely put a tear of joy to my eye. I’m so happy and grateful to have had the chance to see it, especially in this grandiose environment.

This is a once in a life time motion-picture, it will never ever be replicated. The passion to direct something so out of his comfort zone is why I respect this man. This is going to be an interesting second viewing.
