You know when a film makes loads of money and they announce a sequel right away and you think, "Oh, sure, but they'll never get around to it." Well, this is not one of those times - Night At The Museum 2 is gearing up to start shooting, and Enchanted star Amy Adams is in talks for a supporting role, opposite returning star Ben Stiller.
The plot this time sees lots of the artifacts from the film's Museum of Natural History boxed up for transfer to the Smithsonian in Washington DC. Adams will play what Variety describes as an "undetermined" historical figure with a crush on Stiller's Larry, but we're guessing that her character has been determined but simply not announced. It's a good piece of casting -
Adams is every pre-teen's favourite actress following her winsome turn in Enchanted, and could add another couple of zeroes to the box office on her own.
The entire behind-the-scenes team are back for the sequel,
including director Shawn Levy and screenwriters Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon (who presumably finished their script pre-strike, or at least are poised to leap into action as soon as the strike ends). The film's due for release on May 22, 2009, under the catchy title Night At The Museum 2:
Escape From The Smithsonian. We're going to predict right now that the second half of that title gets dropped for its European release. And let's hope they get a bit more creative with it: Another Night At The Museum? 48 Hours At The Museum? Why Not Visit The Museum During Opening Hours Like Everyone Else?
