Tengo entendido que Emma Thompson le llegó a ofrecer dirigir el remake de My Fair Lady que nunca se llegó a llevar a cabo, hace unos diez años. Habían pensado en un primer momento en Keira Knightley para hacer de Eliza y en Colin Firth o Daniel Day Lewis para hacer del profesor Higgins, y en Anthony Hopkins par interpretar al coronel Pickering. Al final la cosa no cuajó. Es que la versión de 1964 de Cukor es buenísima y yo no me imagino a otro Henry Higgins que no sea Rex Harrison. A ver qué pasa con West Side Story....

David Newman (hermano de Thomas, conocido por sus colaboraciones con Danny de Vito en sus películas como director) será el encargado de las labores de dirección y adaptación musicales.
David Newman to Conduct, Arrange & Underscore Steven Spielberg’s ‘West Side Story’ Remake
David Newman (Ice Age, Anastasia, Girls Trip, War of the Roses) has signed on to conduct, arrange and compose the underscore for Steven Spielberg’s upcoming new film adaptation of West Side Story. The composer will adapt Leonard Bernstein’s music from the Academy Award-winning 1961 movie and the 50s Broadway musical for the remake, which will star Ansel Elgort, Ariana DeBose, Rachel Zegler, David Alvarez, Rita Moreno and Josh Andrés River. Spielberg is also producing the project with Kevin McCollum and Kristie Macosko Krieger (Bridge of Spies, Ready Player One). Newman has previously scored an episode of the Spielberg-produced TV series Amazing Stories and also composed the music the Amblin’s The Flintstones produced by Spielberg. He has also been conducting the music of Spielberg’s regular composer John Williams at numerous concerts over the last couple of years and has previously conducted Bernstein’s West Side Story score in concert with the LA Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra and other orchestras. West Side Story is set to shoot this summer and will be released in 2020 by 20th Century Fox.
What makes Megalopolis so strange and, for a big-budget Hollywood film, so singular, is that, just like Vergil’s Aeneid, it is at once accretive, allusive, and idiosyncratic because Coppola is attempting something very few artists have ever done: to speak from inside the imperial organism, even as it begins to crack, and to craft a vision that is both a monument to its grandeur and a requiem for its decline.
