...the audio and the visuals are damn near perfect I couldn't fault one aspect of it's technical presentation, I didn't feel I was missing out on the 3D because the image practically leaps of the screen. The only thing I will say is that this film demands to be watched on the biggest screen possible, it made my 50" feel small. Anyone watching this with a projector, I envy you! The audio is in a word faultless, effects steering is razor sharp surround effects had me literally spinning my head around because of the realism of the sounds, music integrates really well with the mix too and bass is deep, powerfull and prodigious. On a technical level this BD can't be faulted. So if your a fan of this movie I think you will be very happy with this Disc
Picture 6!/5
sound 5/5
at the moment this disc will not run on the Pioneer BDP-LX71 player, so I'm stuck with running it on a DTS-HD-less PS3 for the time being.
I installed the latest 1.39 firmware on my LX71 but was still asked to update the firmware on loading the disc.
After talking to Pioneer today it turns out that the firmware teams only test discs to establish needs for firmware updates once they have been on general release, meaning that an update could be someway off. Not a happy bunny. If there's no fix by the 26th then the player is going back. I'm sure there will be plenty of other unhappy punters should this issue occur with other machines of the same model too.
Back to the movie - yes the image is really rather great, with a full-frame 16:9 MPEG4 transfer that kicks out a pretty impressive bitrate (a lot in the +30Mbps range) of solid quality throughout. Looking forward to seeing it on some better hardware though!
