Es que es del gusto de la academia totalmente. Director histórico (Un tío que se marca en apenas 8 años Padrino 1 y 2, Conversación [encima el mismo año que El padrino 2, jod$%] y Apocalypse Now es un put* genio), regreso después de años de sequía, repartazo Driver, Hoffman, Fishburne, Withaker, Voight, Esposito),.....

Lo que importa es que sea buena, los premios no significan nada.
Por cierto, ¿alguien reconoce la estatua que aparece en la imagen? No se si será ficticia o una real.
He podido leer un borrador del guión (aquí os lo dejo) y me he quedado helado. Sencillamente extraordinario. Mezcla de drama épico histórico con ciencia ficción, historia repleta de dilemas éticos y morales.
Apasionante de principio a fin. Eso si, la escala es INMENSA. Solo a nivel visual este proyecto es de lejos lo más ambicioso que jamás ha parido este hombre. Imagino que el film estará repleto de efectos visuales (por imperiosa necesidad). Pero al mismo tiempo, narrativamente hablando es una historia de corte muy clásico, del tipo que ya no se hace.
Evidentemente esto no tiene por que significar nada, a saber de que año es el borrador, los cambios que se habrán efectuado, y por supuesto como se ha decidido abordar en el rodaje.
Pero aún así... chapó por el Coppola guionista. No he podido para de leer hasta terminarlo.

La premisa de: "Mezcla de drama épico histórico con ciencia ficción, historia repleta de dilemas éticos y morales", se me antoja tremendamente interesante.

"Es toda una experiencia vivir con miedo, ¿verdad? Eso es lo que significa ser un esclavo".
La trama está directamente basada en la conjura de Catilina, pero en lugar de estar situada en la Roma del año 63 a.C, transcurre en una Nueva York derruida en el contexto de un futuro, podríamos decir, distópico.
Los personajes y su acciones reflejan, con alegorías, simetrías y demás, lo que sucedió en la vida real en ese contexto histórico (aunque hay cambios, por supuesto).
Y me callo ya. Ya digo, apasionante es poco.

Muthur, si tu pregunta iba más bien encaminada a como demonios ha conseguido Coppola reunir tal cantidad de dinero para no tener que depender de ninguna productora o corporación, la respuesta es el vino. Coppola es un hombre muy rico (otra vez, tras arruinarse a principios de los 80), gracias a sus inversiones en el negocio vinícola -y en resorts de lujo, pero ese es otro tema-.
No he probado su vino, pero dicen que está muy bueno.

Desde luego es para quitarse el sombrero, que un señor, viendo ya que el final está a la vuelta de la esquina, invierta todo su dinero en el proyecto personal que le apetezca. Bravo por Coppola.
Precisamente estaba hablando con mi mujer estos días sobre esto último. ¿Quizá el hecho de haber sobrevivido a una pandemia y tener 84 años le ha hecho plantearse que este era el momento de llevar a cabo su anhelado -y postergado durante décadas- mega proyecto personal?.
Quiero decir, no tienes nada que demostrar, tienes un colchón financiero para tus nietos y bisnietos, tus hijos tienen ya sus vidas hechas y están bien, y estás disfrutando de tu vejez junto a tu esposa. ¿Que necesidad hay de meterse en semejante fregado tras años de inactividad?.
La respuesta solo puede ser un irrefrenable anhelo creativo.
El hecho de que sea una superproducción independiente y autofinanciada por el mismo, especialmente en estos tiempos donde el cine mainstream está dominado por mega corporaciones y comites ejecutivos que comprometen la libertad creativa de los cineastas y priorizan líneas editores e ideologicas por encima de las buenas historias o la narrativa, no deja de ser increíble. Ni en un millón de años me hubiese imaginado que algo así sería factible en pleno 2023.

De hecho ni siquiera ha pensado demasiado en sus hijos. Hace tres años cuando comenzó a declarar que había vendido cosas y que se iba a embarcar en el proyecto, dijo claramente que no le preocupaba no dejar nada a sus hijos, que ellos era autosuficientes y no necesitan herencias. Lo dicho, chapó por él.
Si, dijo eso, pero el colchón económico ahí está, aún considerando los 120 millones de la película. Que su vino se vende a espuertas... y es socio preferente en resorts que facturan una obscenidad
Es decir, son autosuficientes (y está muy orgulloso de ellos), pero les va a quedar algo, vaya que si.

Bueno, tened en cuenta que el cine es una inversión, por lo que luego puede recuperar todo el dinero y más, siempre que tenga buena acogida. Con eso quiero decir que no siempre es dinero "tirado".
Como a mínimo habrá cumplido con su anhelo creativo, y si tiene éxito económico, pues mucho mayor será su satisfación.
